Wish I could be as philosophical ( and well off ) as you Laurence. I hate to think some bugger's got one over me. Then again Align have been doing that to me for over a year now. Ho Hum.Trex 450 SEV2.

Jebus, what have you been doing to them! Lol..
My Nanotechs ever so slightly puffed, but the voltage drop was shocking on them (just over 12 cycles). I found the Turnigy ones a lot better, and I'm hoping the Optipower packs remain to give me consistent voltage over a higher cycle life.

You guys have me worried now, I've just swapped over to nano tech lipos on my big plank and I'm gobsmaked how good they are, having said that I only have a few cycles on them so I cant comment on the long term.

I have six nanotech packs 3S/2200mAh that I use for fixed wing and a friend has another four. They have all puffed and built up internal resistance. As soon as I open the throttle I get about 1V drop.
The four newer of my packs have not been abused. It is physically impossible to overload them with a 200W motor and they were never under-discharged. My two older ones I always remember them puffed and generally weak but eventually died due to human error. One was left plugged in model and the other under-discharged whist we were trying to get the model down from a tree.

My 3s 2200 nanotechs used on my pro have performed great, I guess they are not so good at 6s. Think I will stick with the standard turnigys for my 6hv and maybe opt for a higher c rating. I would like opti power batteries but they are a bit expensive IMOGoblin 700

Ive around 20 cycles on my 5s 4000 nano's in my fusion and they come off cool and no signs of puffing.
I have 2 opti packs for the same bird, probably around 10 cycles and they are shite!
As hand warmers, stone cold, very consistant power...think they are great and will buy more for sure!!

Thats what happens when you buy cheap batteries Laurence! I too bought lots of 6s,5000's from HK. out of 10 packs, 1 arrived DOA, 1 died on its first cycle, 2 more died within the first 10-15 cycles. Now after 20 cycles or so most of them have very little power and poor balancing.
My Opti-Powers on the other hand I have 12 packs of 6s 5000's. So far no problem with balancing, excellent power, and with around 20-25 cycles each 3Ding or running at full whack on the Jet Bike they are all still rock solid and like new.
For £108 i would recommend them to anyone.Sponsored by - Align - CSM Gyro's - OptiFuel/OptiPower - Kontronik Drives UK

I have 10 turngy 6s 3000mah 30-40c batteries with about 60 cycles on each. The oldest pack (only by about 10 flights) started to puff slightly this weekend. I think this happened because of the high winds and high throttle loads over the weekend! One cell in one pack has a micro shortso the cell discharges over the week but after balancing its fine!Tom

Hi All,
Reading this thread it appears its turning into a brand war which is not what the original poster started. For some time now many people have reported that the Nano Tech's appear to be not as good as the Turnigy, Zippy lipos for whatever reason.
I for one have used top end lipos with little success in the past and will not be paying 50% more for a 6s or any other size battery. For a few years now I have used Hong Kong lipos with great success and to date never had an issue. I have 2s, 3s, 4s and 6s cells. Yes warranty is not as good however you pay a premium for that service.
At the end of the day it's pay's your money and take your choice wether it be, Thunder Power, Rock Amp, Optipower, Flightpower, Turnigy, Zippy, Tipple, Overlander, Voltz etc.
The good news here is because of the 'cheaper brands' which have brought a lot of people into the electric arena the high end lipo manufactures have had to re think their pricing which at the end of the day is benefical to everyone.
These are just my thoughts.
Regards,
Mark.

Im sure it is what he wanted, as Laurence wrote a ravnig review about the Optipower packs last week, it was always going to cause controversy
...but his information is spot on imo. I have nothing but praise for my Opti packs, and the Nanoteches really were terrible.
Time will tell, as its the longetivity of the pack which will sell the UK brands.

Theres no "Brand war" involved here. Its a simple case of you get what you pay for - The Turnigy packs ARE far inferior in both quality and service to premium brands such as OptiPower/Thunder Power. After my experiences I would have saved alot more money just buying the Opti-Power's from the start and not wasted almost £400 on the cheaper ones.
Another thing to think about is that most people dont demand much from their packs. But when you get to Laurence's level of 3D the quality of the batteries is a HUGE factor of the helicopters performance and battery life. For that, paying a little more money and supporting a UK brand is well worth while.Sponsored by - Align - CSM Gyro's - OptiFuel/OptiPower - Kontronik Drives UK

IMO you get what you pay for with Lipos
You want cheap the buy the HK cheap stuff and take a chance.
You buy a decent brand for more money you a decent Lipo with warranty and. Of only that you are supporting the British industry.
I would sooner do without the headache of returning packs to the other side of the world when they are 6 weeks old.!!

..can't see a brand war going on myself.
Only brought up Rockamp in this thread cause that's the best experience I had with 450 sized packs compared with many other brands I have tried on the 450. Tried quite a few other branded ones aswell which I have not mentioned
I will be trying out some optipower soon...hopefully.ANdy - CDMFC

I have a Turnigy 25C NanoTech which has been ok. It will not be as good as a 35C more expensive pack. I don't think you get what you pay for. You have to go with what other people doing your sort of flying use without problems. My best pack for quality and reliability at the moment is the 25C 3S Overtec Sport for about £17. As you get better at abusing batteries you will probably find you need better batteries. I've bought good names in the best that were said to be quality products to find that they were'nt. Brands can change their source anytime as we have no idea where they come from, what they do or how they are constructed. I would trust people you know. A little while ago everyone was raving about the Nanotechs. Some test results showed that they were'nt as good as people thought.Flasher 450 Sport. Assan GA250 with 520 tail servo, MKS DS450 cyclic.
