  • Largest battery to fit Trex 500

Needed a couple of batteries for my Trex 500 so went and ordered two Turnigy 3300mAh 6c packs from HK. When they arrived I realised I may have gone a size too big After a bit of juggling I've got them to fit, just..

Will give it a test flight tomorrow, fingers crossed still flys ok.

What's the biggest size you've fitted in a Trex 500

Largest battery to fit Trex 500

When I had a 500 ESP I used 3300mah and they fitted fine with the lower tray but they did feel heavy. Not a problem unless you're throwing it about, then I prolly go max 3000 better still 2700, lower flight times but more responsive

I agree about the weight Don. When I bought it second hand it came with two 3000mah, my next buy will be the smaller ones. That I'll teach me, biggest isn't always best.....

My ESP with cut down frames takes a 3300mah nicely.

It seems to be a problem with a lot of leccie helis, you need a minimum weight (500g for a 500) to achieve good C of G but then it can be a tight squeeze to get the canopy on. I'm running my Tarot 500 ESP with 3300 packs and un-moded frames but to do this, I mod the cano to bring it forward by about 20mm. Gives me 7mins sport flying.

The largest packs that i have seen to fit are the 3000mAh ones.
I also have cut down frames and the 3300mAh won't fit, even with a canopy that has plenty room inside.

not to put a spanner in the works but I used to fly my 500 on 2200 nano tech lipo and the battery had to be put well forward but the heli flew great and the battery were really cheap

My EFL Pro runs Align 6S 3300mAh packs.

I have needed to move the rear canopy fixings for this. With the ESC (CC Phoenix 100 Lite) under the battery tray, this has actually ended up nose heavy - I've weighted the tail to compensate. I need to do some work on this...

Pleased to report that the Trex 500 flew fine last night with the larger 6c 3300 packs. Gentle hoving it sat steady, no adjustments needed, flew a few circuits and figure of eights (about the level of my flying) really pleased.
                  cheers for the comments guys.

That sounds comparable to my use/experience with 3300mAh. I get 7 minutes at 2650 RPM (by the CC governor), and it does flips, etc pretty well. It does seem slightly 'lorry-like' compared to my 450s. I'm not sure if this is due to the relatively heavy LiPo, or other factors in my config. I'm sure it's partly the latter.

Quite possibly some mass centralisation would help me a lot...
