  • Several Questions about a PL6 set up

    Hi.

So I have a second hand PL6. Also came with a JST-xh adaptor board and a Parallel JST-XH charge board and PC connection. I have not as yet used the PC connection. It tells me at start it is using Firmwrae 1.1 which appears to be the currect version.

Some of the preset charge programmes appear to have been deleted - in that I only have presets in 1, 2,3,4 and 7. All others are blank.

I have set the DC power supply settings up as per manual to prevent the PL6 drawing too much. I'm happy with that bit.

So far I have only charged one battery at a time (I have Turnigy 2650mAh 6S) on preset 1 (Accurate charge 1C) using the adaptor board between the battery and the PL6 for the balance leads and the discharge leads connected directly.

I would like to charge batteries at 0.5C both alone and using the parallel board.

In the set up, I noticed that the Node connector is set for FMA (the other option being XH/EH). If I am to use the parallel board - do I change the node connector setting to XH/EH? I could not understand the manual on this bit.

With the correct setting above, I presume I then plug the parallel board balance lead into the adaptor board and the adaptor board into the PL6. Is this correct?

I can see in the accurate charge start menu it gives me the option to tell it how many batteries in parallel. It then defaults to 1C or to set the mAH.

If I want to charge 2 batteries at 1C - I set the number of batteries in parellel to 2 and leave the C setting 1C. Is this correct?

If I want to charge 2 batteries at 0.5C - again I set the number of batteries at 2 - but what to I set the mAh to ?

OK. Onto the presets. How do I bring back the presets? The manual suggests there should be many more - and I would like to programme one preset with a 0.5C charge.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

well to bring back the other presets you need the usb cable, only via the application you are able to reinsert them or to do a factory reset

if you want to charge your packs I would go and set the amp directly - so rather than charging for example 2650mAh = 2.65A = 1C but you set it directly - thats how I do it

not sure which board you are using but usually you connect the boards that come with it, via FMA, and then connect the parallel board to it

You need to use the PC connection and the CCS software to re-enable the presets. What I would do is a factory reset and re-enable everything as it was. Then you can do what you like with it. I set mine to enable 1,2 and 5C charges for the packs I was using at the relevant current. Then you can delete, move etc the ones you want.

Yes, you plug it in as you describe above

Yes, you set the charge rate and by telling the PL6 how many you have in parallel it will sort the charging current out itself.

You set the current to half the capacity of your pack, so a 3300 you would set at 1650mAh. Why would you want to charge at 0.5C though. All packs are capable of 1C with many up to 5C is available.

Ta. Will do a reset. I was working on the basis that if I was charging in the evening I may as well take my time to preserve battery life etc. will this have any real effect vs 1 C?

I don't think so, nothing scientific to back that up of course.
