  • Powerlab 8 melted connector

I was charging 6 X 6s packs at 18 amp and they were almost complete when I happened to look down and see the connector melting, I touched it and it was melting and really hot, so I turned PL8 off and had a closer look, all the packs were cool and every other lead was cool to the touch as well, although the connector that goes from charger to PL8 has a EC5 connection in it and the positive wire had frayed but was not hot to touch, anyway I resoldered the connector but do you think I should solder the connector in picture, I can cut the plastic away and remove screw then solder it and heat shrink instead
    Attached Files

Phoniex Sim, DX9, PL8 charger, Fusion 600watt PSU

I would do just that, and do the same to the negative black one. I reckon the screw came loose and you got a high resistance contact that resulted in the heat.
Tighten up or solder any others that have a similar screw clamp.
And make sure the 'springy bits' are springy enough to make a good tight push-fit into the socket.
    Trev
Lots of different things that fly

And happy to have FOUR shiny EGS

I had the same before and end up like that on your picture. Decided to use 6mm bullets. No more melting connectors even running the pl8 at full pelt.

I just use normal 4mm bullets, like you'd use on your motor, for my home made charge leads.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.
