  • PL8 always showing high IR on last cell???

When I charge my packs on the PL8 with the parallel charge board, it is always showing the IR of the last cell to be much higher than the others???

is this a known issue? And if so, is there a fix?

    Cheers, Dave

its the parallel charge board wires/soldering, mine always does that for cell 5 but if i use a different parallel board it goes away.

Set the charger to XH wiring mode, it should read cells correctly then

Mine does the same, and some times if the board is disturbed while charging will announce an 'over voltage' and reset itself....

i would also also like to know if there is a fix for this.

        Thanks

I told you the answer, change the wiring to JST-XH node wiring and update to the latest firmware, You will need the PC interface cable, running the charger in FMA mode is no good for your lipo's.

Hers is the E-mail conversation between John Grzan (The owner of LEO Energy Singapore) and myself regards with this issue:

              the question:
"I have one concerns about the battery's IR, just wandering if you could help. I have charged all my battery via PowerLab8 V2 charger for a few times now, and I found out that IR on cell 6 is always higher that other cells (much more than 10% variation) on each individual of them. According to the CCS software, the IR variation should be within the 10%, therefore I would like to know if this is normal (I have attached a screen shot of CCS software, please refer to the attachment)."

              Here is the reply:
              "Well found

              Everyone gets the same issue.
Powerlab has 1 small defect, that is IR measurements.

Due to the fact that it can do node only charging there are a few extra components inside the charger that鈥檒l always effect the first or last cell IR measurements. Your reading are normal for pl8."

              Hope this will help you.

I don't rely on the PL8 for IR readings because of this.

In all other respects it is a great charger, just don't believe it if it says the first or last cell has a significantly different IR from the others.

You know what, I have had this issue before and had completely forgot about this setting...! Doh...!

thanks mate, all sorted I only changed it back to charge a battery individually that didn't fit on the parallel board.

                  cheers, Dave.

Oh, and it can be changed without the PC link cable too

                    All sorted now...perfect!

                    cheers, Dave
