  • JST-XH Parallel board to PowerLab 8 - LiPo HotBox

Hi Guys, I'm building a lipo box to keep lipos warm at the field over winter, including charging in the box. I'm finding the LiPos just arn't performing as well in the cold (and its only going to get colder).

So I have a PL8 thats mounted/built into a field case and a Genny to provide the power. I also have an MPA board that I use for charging.

However the MPA board will be too big to fit in the lipo box, so I've ordered another cheap one that looks a bit smaller:

The thing is, connecting it to the PL8?

The power leads are easy, but the balance plug is a bit harder, I am wondering, would it be ok to just plug this parallel board into my MPA board as if it were a battery? Or would that be too much for one balance plug on my MPA?

If i were to plug the board directly into the PL8, what wiring would I have to do to make it work? Is there a ready made lead that converts the MPA plug into a JST-XH?

Just as a side note, I only tend to charge two 6S 5000 LiPos at a time, or maybe 4 3S 2200 at the field.. just an idea of load on the balance plugs.

I will post some pics of my hotbox when its done =)

That would be fine, or you can convert the lead you have to plug into the PL8.

I have some connectors if you need, I had to order 10 from RS and I dont think I will ever be owning 10 PL8's

only thing you would need to order would be a pack of pre-crimped wires to solder onto your balance lead once you take the 'normal' connector off the end, as the PL8 takes 2mm not 2.54mm

      Thanks mate =)

To be honest I'd be better off if I can get away with just plugging it into my MPA board, because of my field case the mpa board can act as a necessary extension lead to get the hotbox away from the charger. Heres an older photo of my field box, you can see theres a bit of wire needed to get from the PL8 to the floor, so plugging into the mpa would be easier, i was just worried about plugging it all into one plug but guess it will be ok.

Thanks for the offer though I do appreciate it! =)

I may just snip those bullet plugs off and solder an EC5 on, then it will plug directly into my mpa just as an extension =)
