I thought I'd share my recent experience with the forum readers that are currently having doubts about which battery packs they should buy for their models.
On Monday at 10:30AM I sent an Email to Andy at Optipower asking for a little advice on a couple of packs that I purchased last year, within an hour I’d had a reply from Andy in person suggesting that I had possible reason for concern and he was going to replace my pair of 6s packs forfree of charge under the NO QUIBBLE REPLACEMENT POLICY. At around 11:30 I received another Email stating that an order was being processed and hopefully I would have 2 replacement packs within a couple of days, with this I sent a polite reply thanking Andy and thought no more.
The following morning at around 9:30AM my wife phoned me at work asking if I’d been ordering new toy’s without sanction as I’d had a delivery and yes you guessed it, In under 24 hours Andy had assessed and couriered a brand new set of lipo’s to replace my dubious pair. And finally to top it all I was told to do as I wish with 2 that I had doubts about.
What a superb service, any doubt in my mind I may have had in the past about spending that little extra for Opti packs has completely gone. All that was required of me was to provide the charging details of my packs which was no problem as I log every flight and charge cycle details formy own records anyway.

    TOP MARKS OPTIPOWER A+

    Thanks again Andy.

Im gonna take a stab here, I work in manufacturing now and our failure/return rate is sooo low we offer the same sort of no quibble replacement policy with our products. I think most manufacturing companies such as a TV maker for example will allow for something like a 10% failure rate. Because our failure rate is so low (under 1%) we too can turn around and offer without quibble a replacement product and this seems to be the same here. OK we do here about people complaining off slightly soft, puffy or whatever Opti packs but in all fairness it seems a small few and considering they are always out of stock and are being replaced like this so freely leads me to believe that the actual failure rate is very very low.

May be wrong but I doubt it tbh

Good going I say and yes Optipower rule

I'd really like to try some Opti packs at some point. They would be my pack of choice against the tried and tested Turnigy lipos.

Thats good service for sure,i assume its the factory Desire power who ultimately stand the warranty and crash replacement costs though.

I have to agree with the OP and Ben here. I've got some Optis that are going soft and puffing a bit, I think I posted about it the other day in a thread, and I just went out and bought a couple of Gensace packs. I then figured I was being a bit daft and contacted Andy to raise some concerns and I am also getting my puffed packs replaced. I have been told it might take a week or two because stocks are so low at the minute, but with the information I've given Andy he has offered to replace them even though I didn't ask for that to happen.

I've only dealt with Andy twice now, and both times I've had my mind put at ease and received what I consider to be exceptional customer service which is unusual these days.

Looks like he will be getting a lot of puffed packs back then. Everyone i know is having puffing issues. I have a few also, will have to get in touch. They are great packs but i think the power and ummphh is a bit overrated. I also use Overlander extreme pro's on al my models aswell as Opti's..... so i have a good way to test em both against each other. The Overlanders knock spots of the opti's. So... if you really want mental head speed....... try the Overlander extreme pro. They are absolutely insane!!!!! Sure someone will disagree but i have the hard evidence in front of me every time i fly.

All my opti's puffed before 50 cycles...the hype and bullshite got the better of me im afraid.no word of this from any sponsored pilots, funny that

I remember the comments from the 'heavy testing' and predicted cycle life,no mention of squidgy packs, again, funny that

I have to agree with you there Nick , at the time i needed new packs for my 500 i couldnt get Optis for love nor money , i was pretty dissapointed as the Hype going arround at that time was unbeleivable . Im pretty glad i waited now as i think a lot of very clever marketing hooked a lot of people into buying these packs and from what i can see a great many are now having problems . I agree that Opti do seem to be replacing some of theese Puffed Packs but that really shouldnt be the case , theese so called premium packs were going to last 100s of Cycles so what happened . There was also as Nick pointed out many Sponsored Opti Pilots Claiming all sorts of figures but they to seem to have gone very quiet of late . So come on Opti you need to put your customers at ease what is happening with so many of theese packs Puffing or going soft . Me i am buying Genns Ace 2600 30c packs for my 500 and i can get 4 for less than the cost of 3 Optis . Ok i may not get such a great warranty as Opti offer , but hopefully i wont need it .This is JMHO . Rob .

ALL sponsored pilots, not just Opti pilots have disappeared from this forum. I wonder why that is? ...

Shame really as it is a massive loss to RCHA, but fully understandable. As soon as they comment, they are jumped on for being bias etc; and now they are bring provoked, so you can lay into them.

You will also notice EVERYBODY praising Flightpower, have changed their tune and started preaching about Gens Ace; at least Opti pilots are remaining loyal, there must be a reason for this. It's not like they can't get discounts packs from other manufacturers.

In regards to the packs themselves, what had Andy said when you contacted him? What voltage drop off are you seeing? If there is an issue with puffing and a lack of performance, it looks like Andy is dealing with it from this thread?

Damn, I was told by an Opti rep that their packs were tested for 150 cycles and showed no drop off in performance....glad I bought the GensAce now.

Mostly because they ARE biased,Paul...but you are right,it's not their fault, its the suppliers to blame....where is Andy on here now defending his puffy packs, instead its left to the users to come on here and moan.

I beleive i was one of the first on here to notice the packs going soft at an early stage in their lives,i found no results from googling 'optipower puffing/puff'...that posting brought out a few other members saying they were noticing soft packs after just 20/30 cycles.

There will be alot more to come, trust me.

When i used nothing but turnigy a year or so ago i never had soft packs till near on 100 cycles!
