I know its been chilly out latley but i find the opti's get nowhere near as warm as the turnigys, even when the turnigys were new they were never as cool.

Optipower lipos, great performance, lousy hand warmers pmsl

I know Matt Lodge really likes them and Richie, these are the only ones I have seen fly in the flesh and I value and trust their opinions all day long without question,I would maybe like to leave it nearer the summer before getting one but I don't intend to get any new packs before this anyway,a lot of water will flow under the bridge by then so will see at the time.

I flew with them last sunday & Laurence all flying opti's but it's hard to compare against my Turnigy's as they're running 10 & 12s set ups & will allways be nuts in comparisom. Laurence flew with an old worn out pack (not an opti) & it still had more power than my 500. It's Jamiem's & Bladestrikers video's of their Trex 550's that's showing me the power. I do like the Turnigys as you can't beat them for price & this means more packs in one hit so more stick time at the field which is important BUT so is decent power when it's needed. Many have tried Turnigys but got the Nanotechs which are rubbish (my 2s packs didn't last long at all) & so have been put of thinking they all die quick. If the opti can hit 200 cycles before it starts to show signs of getting weak then it's not so bad because the Turnigys will hit 100 cycles no problem so that's £100 for 200 cycles of good but not as 5h!t hot performance but you get 2 flights before charging instead of 1.

Agree with all that Paddy,I don't really rate the nanotechs, even less the Zippys but the blue Turnigys to me have been pretty ok.

I am under no illusions they are a budget lipo, you get what you pay for so if I can see on average the Optis will comfortably outlast and better still out perform the Turnigys I would try a 6s 2700 one out.

Matts and Richies seem very good as do Jamie's in his videos but I suppose it will boil down to trying one myself alongside a Turnigy and seeing it for myself,I am a keen electric flier so it's inevitable this is going to happen in he end.

Very interesting thread with some good input.

You going to the MK flyin?

I'll have mine on me, and at this rate they will only just be bedded in by then!

More than welcome to put some flights thrrough them.

LOL. My 30C was well puffy at the end of it's flight today & nice & warm too 129 cycles & the IR is shocking HOWEVER this is partly down to me taking it right up to 80% discharge some while back & i have found that they only like to go to around 70% which is annoying but that's only around another 20sec less flying. This could also be why so many only last 30 or so cycles because they should go to 80% but they don't, well none of mine ever have. I don't know if others have found this to be true?

Just to be clear I was flying some old worn out packs - not OPTIPOWER packs.

I haven't had many cycles on my OPTIPOWER packs yet but they are certainly the most powerful packs I've had in my Logo 600 and they are also the coolest after flying, and I'm not just making it up when I mean they come down ambient temp, anyone is welcome to feel them after I fly .

Going by past experience temps are very closely linked with pack life.

Well no ifs really, i've been bullied into competing Ha Ha no only kidding. I've begun flying with a bigger goal than ever before as it's always been for fun without time limits to learning but now the pressures on

Noooo, no problem at all. All packs wear out with age and use, it's just the nature of battery technology. Use it or lose it as they say .

                                Hi Guys,

Paddy, we have got to arrange a meet up at the Southampton field and get some valuable practise in soon

As for your original thread about hitting 100 cycles. I'm certainly no way near that yet, however I've hit 150 cycles on my Logo but its spread over 6 flight packs (x12.....6s 3500mAh packs)

Being the good 'sponsored' Opti pilot LOL I emailed Andy Hinton Lever to update him on my progress. So far I'm that confident about the cells, I've decided to copy and paste the email into a post on our Fast Lad team site that I sent him.

It's here if you want to read it Logo 150 flight on Opti Power

                                I
t basicly says I've let the PL8 take control over the charging of the cells in hot and cold environments and just used them as a power tool rather than fuss over them too much.

They are holding up pretty well
                                Cheers Matt
