  • Thoughts on the optipower lipos?

Hey guys, need to invest in a couple more lipos in the coming weeks, I saw these new guys on the Market. Has anybody tries these packs put yet? I am looking at the 6s 5000 mah. I have read other posts, but no actual review as yet. Pricing seems good, abit more then the turnigys but I don't mind paying that extra for cycle life and safety.

They looked to perform well in the Trex 700e I saw at Hop Farm. Bit out of my price range, but that heli had some grunt.
    Cheers,

I picked up 4 of these from Andy at the weekend, will hopefully start to bed them in over the weekend. If the pre-production pack I've had for the last 6 months or so is anything to go by, then they should be very good.

Laurence Gough and Ben Varley both had some packs for review, hopefully they can post their thoughts here

I'm using the 5000 6S pack in my 550 and so far it's a match for the Hyperion and Voltz packs that I also have. The Optipower pack is a few cycles newer than the other two but so far it seems to balance nicely and has plenty of power.

I'm also using the Rx packs and so far very impressed with the one I have, and as I've found all my other Rx packs are more tired than I thought I've just bought a few more

I just bought 6 x 6's 5000 30C Zippy at £41 each posted from HK Germany. Took 4 days to arrive. I could have had Turnigy for £43 each. But I like Zippy and unless you are doing out and out stick banging? WHY pay twice or thrice or etc etc the price???
Been there and done that, but never stop learning.
Now too many Helis to mention?

My first flight on my packs will be tonight on my logo but need to bed them in, they are smaller and lighter than the equivalent turnigies so should be good

I've had my 12 packs of 6s, 5000's since they came out and have probably 20 cycles on them all now. I've been using them in 2 applications with good results so far.
In the Srimok E I am getting long flight times with a high power system, and at the end of the flight the cells are just warm, not hot at all. The main thing I've noticed is that the packs stay rock hard after each flight, whereas other high end packs I've flown go a little squishy after a flight even if they havnt been pushed hard. Gives me a little more confidence that theyre going to last!
the other application I have used them for is drawing over 90A continous for around 30seconds to a minute each time and again the voltage drop is very low and powers consistant with the packs staying only slightly warm throughout. I checked with a Watt meter, and drawing 4200W continous doesnt appear to be stressing the packs .

I've got 10 cycles on my OptiPower 3500mAh 6S (running in series) packs so far, I have been slowly breaking them in, the last flight I had a bit more fun with and the power was great. They come down cool but then again I haven't pushed it too much yet.

The build quality of the packs is also probably among if not the best I have seen to date.

I am going to post an in-depth review once I get to approx 40-50 cycles, still a little early but it gives a good indication on the actually pack quality.

Much better than my Turnigy nano tech packs which have dangerously puffed in appox 15-20 flights!

As for paying more for lipos, I always stuck by you pay more upfront and get much better value per a flight. After listening to everyone rave about the Turnigy packs I thought I would give them a go, as you can see from above I am almost 200 quid down and didn't get anything other than packs to auto with in return. Not only should you get more cycles but more power too.

Very interesting. I think i will be keeping a close eye on these packs. They are only slightly more expensive then the turnigys, but there seem to be alot of UK support for them i.e warranties and crash replacements etc.

Well i think i'm going to have to eat my words! lol i've always been a Turnegy tart! untill my last pack went west! so am giving the optipower 2700mah 6s a go on my trex 500, spent some time 'forming' the packs running them in, in laymans terms! and imho Woooohoooo!!!!! loadsa grunt tbh caught me by suppise!!!, i know my old'uns were baught 12 months ago and well used, cream crackerd! but the differance was awsome, both packs seemed to start 'forming up' nicely after x6 charge cycles, discarging to 50% of full capacity, now thay are stating to get well grunty, happy days!

Also interested in normal customer reviews on these for reference.

My Turnigys never get run in,i hammer them hard full duration from flight number one(too Jewish to waste flights) and never had one let me down to date yet but always consider alternatives.

Hearing great things on optipower packs, even seen them on the gadget show the other day.lol. While I am still learning and having crashes, I think I am gona stick to the turnigys for now. But really considering buying one pack to test out on my 550e....

I've got a 3s 850mah for my T250 & two 5s 3650mah for my T500. I've flown the 250 & was quite impressed, yet to maiden the batts on my 500. I've decided to treat them like shyte, fly them without 'breaking them in', just to compare with other batts I've had.

Initial build quality looks good & the pre tinned cable solder on batteries is very good. Pleased so far.....
