  • New 6s 5000 varied cell voltage??

Hi guys, i have 2X opti 6s 5000s brand new, removed the packs from their boxes this morning and plugged in the lipo checked to see what was going on before I got the plugs and iron out. Both packs have cell voltages of between less than a volt going up to the 3.8v I expected, or 0% and 40 odd%.. Neither pack has been charged as they still have no plugs on but is it normal for new packs to be at 0% or should I be getting in touch with optipower?
    Cheers
    Dan

Sounds like they a dead, you should see storage voltage (3.8V) on each cell.

Try them on another lipo checker just to make sure the one you are using is giving a accurate ready.

I had the same and have managed to get them to a charged state, I won them in a raffle so thought it a bit cheeky to return them but if you've paid for them then I'd return them or at least speak to them. I'd be interested to know what they say

if you are sure that you are measuring correctly then the batteries are toast. Any cell that's gone down to less than 1V and been there for some time is irreparably damaged.

Cheers guys, thats exactly what I expected to hear! I actually got in touch with Andy this afternoon who also confirmed they shouldnt be that low and said to return them
Im not sure my multimeter is 100% accurate either to be honest but i can check the packs with that too cant I?

Yeah, a multimeter testing between each pair of adjacent pins on the balance plug is the most reliable test.

Are those packs the Ultra ones?

Nah mate, normal 30c 5000mah 6s packs. The one that came in at 28v was actually an older fully charged pack, my pl6 has had no problems with it so i know its the meter lying! My multimeter to be fair is as old as gods dog and iv only ever used it for continuity or checking part of a panel is live or not, never actually used it for readings
