  • Optiguard problem, or save ?

Has anybody seen this before? Looks like my ultraguard ARMED on my G630, but only momentarily? Should it do this? Is this an example of a save by the ultraguard, or an indication of a problem with it?

Not sure but worth investigating... I can only offer my experience. I chased an issue for a number of weeks which resulting in me finding that on my Nitro using the Align 2-1 the voltage drop to the RX was up to 1v - the Opti arms at 0.5v below start voltage. However it was only after chasing the problem and analysing the telemetry logs that the issue became so apparent indeed most of the time the drop in voltage was too quick for the LEDs to flash - you can see it in the logs but the unit itself did not fire.

Another more obvious symptom was when I changed ball-links (quite common on the N), the Opti would flash intermittently for a couple of flights while they bedded in (could not be bothered to ream them). I put this down to them being tight adding strain on the servos and hence onto the REG, now this was enough to set the LEDs off, but it would happen through out the flight - not just once like yours showed.

So for me it was a weak Reg/BEC, upgraded it and all the problems have gone. Interestingly this new kit shows us stuff we would never normally see, i've been flying the Align 2-1 for about 4 years and never worried about it until I bought my Opti

Haven't watched the video, as my phone battery is low, but on my g4 the LED flashes every time I do anything with collective (climb out, coming out of stall turns etc). The align servos are hungry and drop the voltage for a split second. The LED also flashes when you move the servos by hand with the model off.

Generally that would be an indication of a momentary voltage drop sufficient to cause the UltraGuard to step in and support the voltage.

The VBar log shows the UltraGuard is doing its job well

One more thing I had was the lipo leads broke inside their insulation - when my opti arms my LEDS flash once. As I said I had a lot of issues :-)

Mine activates on my 700 after about 4-5 flights on my 2S lipo powering the electronics. The Ultraguard initialised on the "resting"/plug in voltage of the lipo but a short while into the flight the lipo as it is getting near the 50% left mark and drops quickly to ~0.5v from the resting voltage.

On my 550 that has a BEC the Ultraguard has not gone off yet

              Cheers,

There were some firmware changes in May last year that made the handling of Lipo/LiFe etc. more intelligent. If your UltraGuard predates this, and the behaviour bothers you then you might want to talk to Andy about a firmware update.

Yea Andy very kindly did mine. It stopped most of the issues with a direct Lipo but after a handful of flights.. the packs voltage "sags" a bit more and it pops on for a very short time when the servos are loaded. Not bothered as I now change pack/charge after 4 flights now. Will go for a BEC soon but waiting for the new Jeti one with fully power logging on the BEC

+1, if the guard is working you shouldnt notice anything more than a .5v drop
