  • Opti-guard 430

So I got an opti guard for my 700 at zone as they were ridiculously cheap.

It came as expected on storage charge and it could not have been easier to fit, now my only gripe mr lever lol is the bloody writing in the packaging is too small to read haha

So my question is, do I need to charge the unit or will it charge in flight ???

Ps the LEDs are wicked !!

You should charge it once yes an then fly and it will charge from there onwards in flight , if you install an fly on storage your bec will be working extra hard while the unit is charging from storage.

Don't fully charge though as it should only be charged to 90% to keep it happy while it sits there for days.Charge to 70% and fly

I did it on one of mine and the led flashes once every 20 minutes or so trying to discharge to its happy spot lol

Plug it in and it will charge itself of the flight packs

It what I do as I believe the currant draw to charge it actually quite low.

          So next question

I prolly fly every week sometimes as long as a fortnight so would you leave the opti guard plugged in all the time or unplug when home ??

Just leave it plugged in Don. It's a very simple solution. It self charges and needs nothing doing unless you are not going to fly for a month or more. At your rate of stick time it shouldn't be an issue.

            Spec savers??

You got a smartphone Don? Try the magnifying app from the AppStore. It's very good and cheaper than spec savers. In fact it's free!

I just let mine charge from the BEC Don. I do tend to unplug the LIPO from the board when it's not in-use. More because I don't like the idea of a plugged-in LIPO in the house whilst I'm asleep more than worrying about the battery discharging ...

PL8 can charge it OK, just have to use the FMA wiring mode which allows balance wire only charging, so can't do it from an MPA board.
