  • accurate/fast charge + cells out of balance

Im just on charging a few lipos for a quick fly tommorow and I don't get the fast charge/accurate charge bit of the charger? I toggle it to accurate charge but it says fast charge when im charging the lipo?! and the charger beeped to tell me my 6 cell lipo on ch1 and 2 were done, cell 1 was around 4.184 and cell 6 about 4.206, the middle cell were roughly the same although only at 4.19 and not 4.20, just dodgy turnigy packs? I have only charged the lipo 3 times.

    Which charger are you using?

With only 3 charges, the packs are still bedding in. With only a small difference between the cells i would not be overly worried at this stage personally.

I had to do a double read of the OP's post - first time i read it as if there was a 6s on each of the channels... Been there done that and nearly ruined two brand new 6S Lipo's!!

Ok so i have charged 3 of my 6s tonight again, as like the last charge the cells aren't fully balanced, ranging from 4.18 to 4.20, although the charge indicated both channels are full at 100% charge. The strange thing is the 3 lipos are pretty much the same voltage on each cell at the end of the charge, for eg. cell 1 finished at 4.18 and cell 6 at 4.20, the middle 4 cells ranged from 4.19 to 4.20, on all 3 lipos i have charged?! the same on last nights charging using the same lipos?

          any ideas?

Balancing isn't that important. Cells can be balanced very accurately but there isn't really much of an advantage. The reason for balancing is to give an easy way to make sure that no cell goes over 4.20V or whatever figure you choose. At the other end of the scale, when deciding the end of charge it is important to avoid the voltage on discharge going below a certain figure. This can be anywhere between 3.0V and 3.7V. The lower the figure the less number of cycles you will get out of the cells. If all of your cells have exactly the same capacity and internal resitance and lose heat at the same rate then they will all be the same volatge at end of charge if they have been balanced the same. This doesn't happen in real life, everything is a compromise between time to charge, flight time and battery life.
