  • cellpro 10 s help please

recently i have discovered that all my used 6s batteries have all been knocked down to 5cells,was scratching my head for a bit but put it down to my balance board so today got a new one delivered, when i check my cell count with my new board on a brand new 6s battery its only charging five cells, however when i check with a battery checker its picking up 6 cells, this battery was charged once from brand new,the cell count on the first 5 is around 3.9 discharged but the last cell is showing 2.85

i suppose what im asking is,is my charger knackered or if you do use a cellpro 10s,when charging a 6s pack what is the cell count on the cellpro charger,im imagining it should be 6.
    thanks for reading

You need both plugs from the balance bord for the charger to see over 5 cells

I did exactly the same thing as you fella, charged my 6S by only plugging in one of the balance board leads. Luckily i only did this once, and the Cellpro managed to recover the low voltage cell, and both of my 6S have been good ever since...

You could have a go at recovery (which takes along time) but you might find that its beyond recovery.

I got caught out becasue i was used to charging 5S for my old 500 before getting a 550.

You're not the first and won't be the last.

How many times you used the packs with only 5 cells damaged?

                Any cells puffed?

i think the 11 used ones are pretty much a write off,i really only noticed the lack of power after using a brand new pack,im feeling fairly ill at the moment

If you have 11 of them, and they are good packs, then make them 5s packs.

This is one of the reasons that you should always charge packs with the discharge lead connected too. Not only does it allow higher than 4A charge rates, but it also allows the cellpro to check the total voltage of the pack and compare it to what its seeing on the balance connector. It will also give you the internal resistances of each individual cell - a real health indication of each cell.

i will have to,i used to think the guys at the field were running a bit more power than me,basically i have been flying my 500 on 5s power since day 1,and also my 700 and srimok,i really dont beleive it,please be gentle in any ribbing that occurs from this thread as it wasnt too long ago that i saw someone else fly an rc heli for the first time, thanks for the help guys

Instead of creating 5S lipos, perhaps its possible to cut your losses on 2 of them, and use individual cells to replace the knackerd cell in each of the other packs.

You could then have at least 8 of your 11 back working as 6S. I have never taken Lipo's apart, but i cant see why it would not be possible if the good cells are all nicely balanced.

                            @ jamiem
i think this was where the problem started for me,i used to only charge via the balance leads as i didnt understand things too well at the start of this hobby,so as i understand what is after happening is,ive charged all my 6s packs through the balance lead only with only one part of it plugged in,the charger therefor only charged five cells so everytime i used the battery it killed the sixth cell,in the last couple of months ive started using the charge leads as well as the balance board which was charging fine,or so i thought.then went to charge brand new battery via balance lead and charge lead and it wouldnt charge it,this is the point i started to question my charger/balance lead and this thread is where ive ended up
i understand it fairly well now and dont feel as bad as i should as @aidi says,i may well be able to salvage something from the situation, maybe not eight as there differant mah batteries but i think i will be able to save five and one of the lads at the field is looking for some 4s batteries so the situation works out well for him, again thanks for the help

Each output point of the Cellpro is only 5s as in 10s x 2 plugs = charge 2 5s batteries
the balance adapter comes with 2 leads for the 10s, dont ruin anymore batteries
