Kong Power,any thoughts?

Been reading a lot about Kong Power Lipos and i see that Als Hobbies now stock them and they are well priced,they make a point of this non Puff and 2.2v per cell discharge limit,,just wondered if anybody has any feedback over here on them..

I know lots of people rave about them on helifreak. I don't think they have such a good reputation on this forum for some reason? I would be interested in others opinions regarding their performance (assuming they own some KP's).

The rumour is that these are based on the same cells as AirThunder. Which I have got and used. I did a comparison of that pack to a kokam 2000 and a Revo 2100. It's on the site.
However, bear in mind this is rumour, I haven't been able to verify that Kong Power and AirThunder are the same chemistry/cell myself.

The way Kong Power prevents the packs from puffing is to fit plates each side of the pack/cell to prevent it from expanding..rumour has it this is why they weight a little more for similiar capacity.

From what I have read..and some of it is likely twaddle, is that as a lipo degrades the pack internally becomes "mushy"

The KP can withstand overdischarge a little better than most (but will deterioate quicker the more you do it) They may be anti puff but not exempt from lowering there performance and reduced cycles due to missuse..it just happens at a reduced rate.

At a guess my theory.. when a lipo puffs it's caused by heat within the pack..Once it swells/gets hot with that airgap round the cells and the different internal/external temp it will likely create moisture and gas vapour within the pack causing it to degrade more quickly.

I suspect KP by keeping the cells compressed prevent the swelling.. hence with no airgap this will minimise the breakdown of the cells.

Actually they use a different technology we call "Rolled Kernel instead of laminating the cells. They might well have a anti puff compond as they claim . Rolling them, however, makes the cells harder to puff, but heavier.

that's what kokam originally patented, the technology to roll up the plates without fracturing them.
