  • Power Lab 6 v Power Lab 8 & Fusion 600W PSU

For parallel charging 6S lipos (3500Mah) are they any disdavantages of buying a power lab 6 instead of an 8?

Planning to charge between 4-6 lipos at a time max.

Was also thinking of buying fusion 600w 40amp psu. I think this will give about 20amps max output at 6s voltage. Based on 20amp at 25.2V would be charging the 6, 6s 3.5amp lipos at slightly less than 1c. My question is it dangerous or deterimental to PSU to run near max capcity?

Are there any other power supplies worth looking around the £80-£120 price range?

    Any info would be appreciated.

Make a 24v one, cheaper, better quality and easy

May well be worth a look are there any threads showing an example one? Also any comments on pl6 v pl8 would be a big help.

      Cheers

        Here's one

Building a 24 volt capable power supply

The only advantage of the PL8 you will have is that it can deliver more Watts.

Wouldnt bother with the Fusion, you wont be near any limits with the PSUs above

I have both as I have the small helis in Glasgow and the big ones in Bristol. If you are only charging 3500s I would go for the pl6 as it's more than capable of handling 5000s. I use a 700w (20A on +12v rail) converted computer psu for power in both locations which is ok for about 12-14A but I would not push them past that as they are likely to implode and create a black hole in my heli workshop Now paired with a 24v psu you can’t go wrong, I'm building one at the mo'. I will be surprised if you outgrow the pl6 and if you do just add a pl8

@12v you are limited to around 400w on the PL6.

Thanks for the info, I think the PL6 will be fine. On the power supply, would the 400W lmit still apply with 15v input as per the fusion though?

Its not 400w, its slightly higher...

                ...but its not 1000w

Not strictly true. I believe the PL8 has the capability of charging just through the balance lead, the PL6 does not.

This is where I'm confused. 2x6S 5000mAh packs at 1C is ~222W? I'm not fussed about charging enough LiPos at once to power a city. I'd rather stick to one flight set (so 2x 6S) at 1C. I know LiPos have come a long way but they still scare me so I don't want to push my luck.
