  • 6s storage setting selection help please.

Guys I am a bit on the thick side when it comes to batteries

I would like to put my 6s packs to storage state. I have an Overlander rc-6s pro charger/balancer that is great for charging/balancing my backs.
I also have the Gens ace 2600 packs that I would like put it to storage state.
I select Lipo storage setting and 22.2v (6s) but I am not sure what to select on the 0.02A setting. Do I leave it as it is, or I need to change it.

    Sorry for the thick question

Hi Mate just charge them at 1c the same as usual but set your charger to storage setting and it will charge to about 50 or 60% . If you try and charge at 0.02% ir will yake forever . Hope that helps Rob .

      This is taken from the manual;

There are three charge programs available.
Press A button repeatedly until you reach the cell type (LiPo, LiIo, or LiFe as chosen above).
Press B button to enter the charge set-up screen.
Press Plus or Minus button to scroll around the five programs, choosing from the following
      three:-
Charge – a basic charge process without balancing.
Balance – a much better process involving both the charging of the pack and the active
      balancing of the individual cells.
Fast – a process designed to allow charge rates at above 1C with the current reducing towards
the end of the charge. This process reduces the charging time but also slightly reduces the
final capacity of the pack. It may also reduce the cyclic life of the pack.
Press B button and the amps will flash.

Edit: damit, why don't I refresh the page before I post.....must have taken my time looking up the info.
Press Plus or Minus button to set the current to your chosen value.
Press B button again and the voltage (cell count) will flash.
Press Plus or Minus button to set the voltage to your chosen value.
Press B button to stop the voltage flashing.
Connect the battery and press B button for about 3 seconds which causes the screen
to alternate between Cancel (stop) and Confirm (enter). The B button needs to be pressed
again whilst the Confirm (enter) message is on the screen and this will start the procedure.
The process will continue automatically until complete when the unit will give an audio
      signal.

It appears that you set the storage voltage and away it goes.

Thanks guys. The battery's are fully charged and I would like to discharge them to safe storage charge. I am aware on how to charge them but I never had to use the storage setting before as I always had them fully charged the summer months as I was using them at list 3 times the week. But now I will be using them less I would like to put them to storage state till I need to charge them again on the day......... if that makes sense....lol
Soo the amps option need to be set to????? 1 amp? 2 amp? ...........

I don't think there's many chargers out there that actually take charge out of the fully charged batteries to set them at storage rates like you want.
Most will re-charge the 'used battery' to the set the storage level as set within your charger.

So, if you've got fully charged batts, use them as normal then re-charge using storage mode. It'll simply beep/nod/wink at you when they've reached a lower than normal charge rate.

          Hope that helps.

Bit of a penny dropping moment isn't it. I know it was for me

If you need to set an amp option anything between 1 and 3 amp will be ok. Hopefully the charger will display the discharge current. The storage voltage is not critical, especially as you kept them fully charged in the Summer. Keep a check on the volts once a month and topup if the volts drop to 3.7 per cell. Nobody really knows much about current lipos as our info on failures is mainly about lipos that are more than a year old. The cells are being changed all the time, but in another year or so we'll know how to look after the current cells.

That explains why I had it nearly all day on storage setting and it has not discharged the pack a bit....... lol is set up on 0.2a..... doh. Battery's are a longgggggggg learning curve for me..... and I hope for others too... lol

                Thanks mate.

The PL8 does this. I charged 4 x 6s 5000mah packs for use on Monday and only used two fully, the other 2 were still at about 70% (nose in hover training), I set the PL8 to run the packs down to storage voltage. After about 20-30min the packs were down to 3.86 per cell. I was not using regenirative charging (placing charge into another bat) so it was just converting the power into heat that the fans inside the unit were blowing out the back. I think it managed -4.8A at best.

That is one of the nice features of the PL8, set the program to storage and it knows whether it has to charge or discharge the pack.

Your charger will discharge to storage level according to the manual.

                        Hi,
I have the same charger as you and have put my batteries into storage state from fully charged many times. Just goto the storage setting as you already know. Press the start button briefly once and the amps will start flashing. Use the up down buttons to select the amount. It will only go to 1 amp for discharging the battery. Then press the start button once more briefly to set the battery cell count/voltage ie 7.4v, 11.1v, 22.2v etc.
I always put it at 1 amp for the discharge to storage but it only ever discharges at about 0.6-0.7 and just as when it's charging, the rate drops when it get's towards the end and balances the cells. My 3s batteries take about 1.5 - 2 hours to get down to storage state. This is 3.8v per cell. Piece of cake. HTH.
Oh, and the charger does get pretty warm when discharging down to storage level but don't worry, this is normal.
                        Cheers, Rich
