  • CellPro 4s Lipo Restore

    Hi all,

I Had the misfotune to leave the lipo in my zoom 450 ic plugged in and it drained the battery below the 3.7v limit on a 2 cell pack. Now when I brought the cellpro charger I remebered it had apparently got the ability to bring the cell charge back up to where it should be so I wired on a pigtail and gave it a whirl.

Let me just point out that I have several chargers including a chameleon which all said the lipo was dead or gave a wrong cell count. Turned on the cellpro which stated lipo checking and then lipo restore with a 2.5v per cell. 45 minutes later I had a lipo fully recharged with 100% charge

Thought I would just give a heads up that this feature does indeed work.

be interesting to see what the performance of this battery is like now its been restored.
    All the best

slow discharge doesn't damage lipo chemistry (e.g. like leaving it plugged in).

A chap at our club did this, and he thought all was hunky-dory and the pack was fully recovered, until it failed in service....... quite soon afterwards.

I guess it depends on the pack chemistry, some are better than others at withstanding this sort of abuse. In theory they should all recover if the amp loading is very low.

Done this with a TP1320 that ended up in a tree for 2 months but I just used a low NiCd charge and the pack is still functioning now

Well time will tell and it's only a 900mah so won't exactly break the bank if it is knackered, maybe a good idea to give it a couple of cycles before using it as a rx pack again.

Similar problem with a 3 cell twister battery it was left pluged into a charger that was not powered. Mistake... there is a resistor across its output it totally flatened the battery when i realised it had about .3 volts on it. Charged it on a big tile (flameproofing) and it all swelled up diagnoses..... stuffed. It didnt get hot but i didnt trust it after that..... and the voltage never recovered properly.

Charger is a JP LI-PO2000 professional. Dont leave plugged into battery when not powered it takes current from the battery..

does too if you leave it pluged in for ages

not if you recover the voltage correctly like the Cellpro charger does, just stuffing it on charge will screw it for sure if you just use an ordinary charger

My TP 1320 was showing no voltage at all. It had been up the tree switched on for around 2 months in rain wind etc. before it fell down

Stuck it on a NiCd trickle/TP balancer and kept an eye on it and as soon as the voltage got up to a sensible voltage I switched to a slow Lipo charge and the pack still works fine months later in my Lil Banchee

Ok so if its dead flat it needs to be constant current charged at a low rate (plug top charger or similar) then when its got back to a reasonable voltage charge it properly. (not used to liops yet and only got a silly little charger)

I do wonder about the logic of balancing batteries up trees.
