  • Field Charging - what about this?

I have a couple of 12v 20 amp batteries that were used to operate an electric golf trolley. These are no longer used for golf but are perfectly OK and they can be left on trickle charge (with their own dedicated chargers) all the time so they could be ready any time to take to the field for charging lipos.

However, I have a couple of issues:

    1. Will they be ok to use and hook up to my quad charger? (The charger can be connected to a car battery or similar with appropriate leads)

    2. The connectors on the batteries are a bit unusual, and I'd like to rig up a lead to go between the battery and the charger, does anyone know what the connectors are called and where I can get them from? (I need the "male" type which is like the one that is already on the decicated charger)

Here are are a couple of pics of the battery and the connectors:

Yeah you can hook up your charger to these no probs, the leads look like some form of power poles

Can i ask are these the plugs that join the two batteries together as they dont look handed but are different ie look male and female to me??

Maplins would be a good place to start or any decent small electrical place for connectors.

Personally i would cut them off and use something a little more "conventional"

If you are going to run Quad or multiple chargers on them i would parelle them up to give a 40A battery, If doing more than 3 cell packs at a time it wont last very long either way

      Alex,

The connectors are male and female - one of them (female) is the one that is attached to the battery, the other one (male) is attached to the dedicated charger that came with the battery.

I have two identical sets. I think I may do as you suggested and use a more conventional connector if I can't find the same ones. Just seems a bit of a shame to have to remove them when all I need is one male version for my lipo charger.

      Cheers,

OK found the connectors - they are called Torberry connectors, I've ordered a couple via ebay. I will set up a parallel set to ramp the batteries up to 40 amps - should do the trick!
