why do i keep popping power supplies?
    i have in the past had Pro-Peak Power Supply 13.8V 20A - OIP2000 - ModelmaniacsOnline.Co.Uk

lasted about a month before it popped

    had a replacement, same again

    next i got a Fusion
Single Power Supply 200 watt 15 amp

this lasted again about a month, replaced with
    200W 15A Twin Power Supply - O-FS-PS200T [O-FS-PS200T] - £34.99 : TrexMAD, R/C Model Electric Helicopters Burnley - Specialist supplier of kits and spares for ALIGN T-Rex 250, T-Rex 450, T-Rex 600, T-Rex 600, Gaui, RJX X-treme

again by fusion, but the twin output

but yet again a month (ish) has gone by and again "POP"

i am using the GT A-6-10 200W Balance charger & discharger
HobbyKing Online R/C Hobby Store : GT A-6-10 200W Balance charger & discharger

    i am charging my 6cell packs 3000/ 2650mah batts at 5a (1.7c)
so both charger, and power supply are well within limits, and have been going like this since getting them, so have been fine with no issues, no overheating etc, all go without warning

so whats going wrong? is it just shear number of uses i put it thru? i would say i charge my 5-7 packs almost daily (weather/work dependant)
or have i just been very unlucky in power supplies?

    thanks
    Mark

    Grrrr not again!!!

You are probably pulling nearer twice the Amps in real terms because of the overhead of the voltage of the packs you are charging. Still within the limits of you PSU but much more than you think you are using

I'm no electrician but I wonder if it's perhaps something to do with your domestic supply?Seems unusual to keep blowing PSU's like that, is it just them you have had problems with? Anyhow, I hope you get it sorted soon.

What you need is a better power supply

Maas 25-Amp Regulated Power Supply (SPS9250)

I've been using the 40A one for many years charging up to two 10s packs at once and it's never skipped a beat.
Buy cheap buy twice or in your case 3 or 4 times :P

Are you using a surge protector, if not, that could be it, a surge voltage peak on the input will cause short bursts of current, though not long enough to blow the fuses but that could be causing cumulative damage to other more current sensitive components.

However I am convinced that those Propeak power supplies are not 20A, or at least they've put the wrong type of fuses in them, my one was shorted across the output terminals due to what turned out to be a freyed wire on the chargers lead where it entered the chargers body, though this wasnt visible externally.

So it went pop, but didnt blow any fuses, and really on a power supply there should have been another fuse on the output which would have protected the power supply from such a fault, bad design really to not have one.

Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Perhaps you should change your handle to "Cyclonopops"?

Recently Custom PC Mag found that most of the PC supplies would go pop if ran at their max rated wattage. Put simply most powersupplies are overrated and if it says its a 200W powersupply it is most likely a 150W supply that can do 200W but will go pop sooner rather than later.

You have two choices buy a cheap overrated powersupply (ie cheap 300W when you are only drawing 200w) or get a quality powersupply that can deliver its rated wattage continuously without going bang (like the revelectric one). That said the revelectric one is really noisy - just so you know!
