  • Odd Lipo Behavior- Recoverable?

    Hi All

Got a Kongpower 4S 2200mAh battery for my Dynatron.

Cell 3 has always been funny, it was always the lowest voltage after use compared to the other three.
Battery isn't very old, maybe 20cycles.

Anyway, it always takes an age to balance charge, Cell3 taking the longest to come up to voltage. I still have always balanced charged it mind.

I decided i'd try to cycle the pack a few times via my charger, to see if i could improve it. So i set my charger on its discharge cycle, discharging at 400mAh.

Voltage steadily drops over the course of 3-4 hours without issue, but its gets down to 3.6-3.6v per cell and cell three suddenly drops to 2.4v and the charger shuts off its discharge.

A balance charge then brings this cell, and the others happily up to 4.2v per cell.

Whats going on? Is the cell recoverable or is it bin time?

    Thanks

    Matt

Very odd Bahairyour. Mind you, if it's only being used to run a starter and you're not worried about it setting fire to your house, hand or flight box, might it be worth just living with the problem?

Don't know how i managed to come up with that word, but i've edited it now

I'm thinking the same, just don't want to be at the field one day with a battery not up to the job of turning my 90 over.

As long as i charge it after each session though, it *should* be ok

      Thanks

I was gonna be a speller when I left school. Then they invented the spell checker and dashed my chances of a potentially lucrative career!

sounds like cell 3 is on its way out - this is why I have used A123 cells on my starter ( almost bullet proof cells)
