  • Whats a good 3s charger?

I am after a reasonable charger for a friend, his just started in the hobby and needs something to charge 3s 2200 packs.

The PL6 is a bit overkill, i was looking at the cellpro 4s, but not sure what adapters are needed if any?

Also looking at the imax b6.

    Any other recommendations?

I've got a sky RC quad charger. 4X50w outputs so will easily manage 4x 3s 2200 packs at a time. It might be a little expensive (£200) though. Failing most of the current crop of <£100 90w chargers will do the job just fine too.

+1 The Turnigy reactor is a clone copy of the iCharger but seems to be just as reliable. I have the 300W version of the Reaktor which is another good option. Both are in excess of what he will strictly require for a single 3S 2200MAh but it gives room to grow.

I've pointed him towards the 300w Reaktop with this charge board seems a nice spec.

            +1 on the Turnigy Reaktor.

I have 2x 300w ones and they are the only ones I use now.
This one is also not to bad if he is after a cheaper one.

Revo 4s is a great little charger.
Dont get a laptop power supply as they are only rated to 5 amp.
Get a 10amp, fan cooled supply.

This one is worth consideration; https://www.wirelessmadness.com/rc-a...teries-ol-2983

A lad in my club has one and it seems a great bit of kit and does AC in or DC in.

I use a Cellpro 4s, it charges through the balance leads, it knows how many cells the Lipo is and how many Mah it is. For me its a no brainer.

Any modern charger reads how many cells a LiPo has, but there is no way for any charger to read the mAh capacity of a battery automatically direct from the battery itself. The closest thing are those 'Bump' tags that you attach to the battery and program, then you read the tag data with a bump controller. I'm pretty sure that the Bump controller only works with the PL6 or PL8.

50W chargers like the 4S are fine for small batteries but they just arent up to the job if you are charging anything bigger. Even for a humble 3S 2200mAh they are a bit limited in you want to charge fast. Also these days when even 450 helis use 6s batteries the 4 cell limit is very restrictive.

Yea Ok, but all I know is that it starts charging without any input from myself and that's what I like about it and yes as you say if your in a hurry to charge it has its limitations. But for charging my receiver packs its great.

So do most of the others mentioned and certainly the iCharger and its Turnigy Reaktor clones do that. For £36 it's very hard to look past the 250W Reaktor or £55 for the 300W version. The matching 350W power supply is about £40 or you can even buy the 300W version with a built-in power supply for £90.
