  • Help needed to repair my genny

Not sure this in in the right section, but it's connected to my charger. Was at the field a few weeks back, went to charge a couple of packs on my P&t infinate 2500i genny and all of a sudden it stopped charging. Does anybody know of a repair service local to the West Midlands I can take it? Engine is fine, just the charging side of things and I've looked on the net and I believe it's an Australian genny, which is pretty crap as can't seem to get hold of them or any numbers/ email to speaker Etonians anyone about them. They still list them for sale on Amazon for £600, but don't really wana spend that if I can get this one back up a running?
Ive got my pal looking at it at the mo, but if he can't fathom it out, I'm gona need somewhere to take it. I live in Stourbridge if any one can help, would be mucho appreciated.

A bit of punting around the net shows a UK address
Power & Technology Infinite UK Ltd

    Unit 150 Yateley Street
    London
    SE18 5TA
    Landline: 020 8854 1099

-However associated punting around also suggest that they may not have filed company accounts from 2013 and an apaprent website they had is unfindable?? If there's no answer on that number then i'd guess that the UK distro closed up

Yeah that's the number I tried, few weeks back, it's dead. Can't seem to find any other contact for them. All leads I've tried lead to a Mr. Zong who by the looks of it is the distributor, but even he hasn't replied. Looks like it's a no go! That's why I need a repair shop local to me or someone on here who had same problem. I may try Ian cool ice, he's up on his lecky bit's n bob's. Cheers tho

If the engine is still running but no electricity is coming out then its likely to be the inverter board that converts the internal 24/30v voltage to 230v. In the kipor gennys the inverter board is all one sealed up unit so you cannot repair it but only replace it with another board.

i would say open it up in your garage, take a look whats inside, if you can very carefully try to take some readings see if theres any internal voltage, if so its the board, if not it could be the actual dynamo which will need rewinding.

you can also check if theres any internal fuses or broken wires that could be causing the fault. Again with small gennys everything is very packed in so things can get hot and/or rub on the frame.

Once you know which part if broke, i would try looking for the replacement part on ebay uk and ebay Australia for a part.

Or xygaz if he'll help. Otherwise it might be possible to get some local repair guys details from one of the rival company's such as Generators for Sale UK | Buy Petrol & Diesel Generators | SGS
Hopefully all these things are built on much the same modular base (or even are clones) so that if the engine runs then one can swap out the genny bit.
I bought one of the bigger kipor suitcase jobs as a domestic backup.. but it was a) too heavy for the wife and b) refused to work against the borehole pump strtup draw - whereas a smaller old ancient frame based tech honda didn't care. I sold it and bought a way bigger wolf genny with leccy start and wheels for the same money. Non of my 'sensitive electronics' care whether the power came froma fancy sine wave thingy or Wolfy lumps - they were coping with rural leccy before and mostly have their own smoothers anyway.

cheers Matt, yeah it's a sealed unit, my pal has taken it apart and your right you can't get at it. If it was me I'd smash it open lol. I think the Ausi eBay maybe the way forward.

              Hey buddy.

From what you're describing it does sound like the inverted board is the part which has gone wrong.
If I got to look at it, I'd probably start to search for a similar unit I could retrofit in place.
Going down to component level Xygax would be your man, as he can diagnose if components have failed. However he's quite busy at present so probably not going to be able to help fully for a month or two.
I'd say for now definetly try and remove the inverter part of the genny, as I would think this is the culprit.
I'd certainly offer to take a look if need be, I can ask Steve (xygax) questions as required and I've learnt an awful lot from him and my own messing around to have a good go. I'm a little up in air to, new baby on the way due on the 2nd April, so any day now, but I can fit it in if there's no rush.

Cheers Ian, I'll see how my pal gets on and if no joy, I'll see if there is somewhere local to me. If I did send it to you? Could I just send the inverter? The genny weighs the same as a small bus lol

                  Evening Mate.

Cool. Yeah if he has no joy I would just send the inverter part and I'll see if I can see anything, I can call Steve for some help in identifying any problems as well, then get it to him later on if need be.
