  • Nip out while charging

Does anybody nip out for five or ten minutes while their LiPos are on charge??
Helicopter pilots get it up quicker.

When the blue light is flashing I am kidding.

Why simplify when it is so much simpler to complicate.

No never! Sods Law dictates the it will go wrong in those five to ten minutes!

If you need to leave then stop the charge while your away it only takes a few moment but could save you a whole lot of time trouble and money.

Nope, not once!! I had a lipo balloon and get very hot while charging and if I hadn't been there to see it who knows what might have happened!

Don't get me wrong I don't stare at them while on charge, I'll go in the garden or wash the car out the front or something but I'll always keep.checking in every few minutes.

How does it affect the capacity etc. if I re-start the charge ten minutes later??

I just stop the charge, disconnect everything and then just start the charge process again from the beginning. It takes little bit longer but it's the safe opinion.

I never get my nips out while I'm charging, unless it's cold...

what!!!! I ensure the charger is correctly set up, turn them on, then go back as and when, might be 5 hours later, the charger automatically turns off on the battery reaching capacity. I think anything else is being a bit paranoid!!!

Have a read through this and then come back to us. :-) There is a small risk of disaster.

I've never watched my lipos charging! When you come back from the field and have 14x 6s packs to charge @ 1c even doing 4 packs at a time is just not realistic so I plug 'em in and get on with life!!

Brave man! Every lipo manufacturer worth their salt will say in their documentation under something like "IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AND WARNINGS" that:
"Never charge batteries unattended. When charging Li-Po batteries you should always remain in constant observation to monitor the charging process and react to potential problems that may occur."
Which is good enough for me.

I prefer to charge outdoors at the field with my generator. I leave my batteries unattended while I'm flying. At home I don't stand watching my LiPos like paint drying but I do pop back to check them every now and again. I've never had a LiPo start swelling but once there was one that started to get warmer than my other LiPo's. I stayed with it for about 10 minutes and when the temperature started to get too warm for comfort I discharged it and stuck it in a bucket of water.

I charge mine in the kitchen as I can be in the lounge only about 12 feet away. I also check now and then that nothing is getting hot. It's a bit of a pain in the rear to be honest but I don't think I'm being paranoid I think I am being casual but cautious.

If I need to go out I stop charging and disconnect the LiPo. When you resume charging it's just the same as if you had not flown the pack as long, it just puts back what it needs to get the voltage up to 4.2 volts per cell.

Nope always in the same room when charging ! As the wires from my power supply do get warm to my PL8. Never ever trust them its not worth it !
