    Lipo near disaster

    Hi All
    So charging my lipos and I noticed one of the discharge leads looked a little floppy. I cut the packaging away a little to have a closer look. The discharge lead was broken most of the way through. I am amazed it hadnt burnt out at 80% had maybe broken. Maybe on the heli it was pushing the broken bits back together so it could get enough current. Dont know but the heli flew fine.

    Its a gens ACE 2600 6s that has been going great for over 2 years and maybe 100+ cycles. The numbers on it are as good as new so dont want to disguard it. I have a contact for Gens Ace here in China so might contact them to see if they have a repair service. If not I guess cut the cover back some more and solder back on myself.

    Any tips? Has anyone seen this before ??

    If it was me I wouldn't touch it and get rid if its served you well. The shipping price back to China will cost you as much as a new one ! About £44 plus postage from giantshark Gens Ace 2600mAh 25C 6S Lipo Battery - All - 6 Cell lipo Battery - Lipo Battery - Giant Shark

        +1, get rid, pitty your a day late, just sold 2 GA 2600's £50 and 2 2700's £60 the pair. Always the way, but I wouldn't try to repair, by the looks of it corrosion has set in. Bin it and buy some more

          Yes have had a good run. I am living in China at the moment so only about 1 quid to send it back. Just have to check if they offer that service. Also thought it might be good for them to see. They might be able to stop it happening in the future.
          44 quid for a new one in the uk. Glad I dont pay UK prices :-)

              Id just re-solder it personally but youll want a steady hand, a 100+ watt iron, and some decent solder.

                    You'll need more than 100 watts, you need an iron that can top 500 degrees Carl and hold it.

                      i did it ok with mine... probably easier with a bigger one though.

                      trick is to make sure you have a little solder on the tip to get good heat transfer to get it off, and when your re-attaching, melt the solder on the wire first, then the blob on the tab...

                        The size of the tip is important and the condition. The tips get porous and don't conduct heat. I used to assemble things that took a lot of heat. Tips didn't last that long. Normal sort of iron around 60W. I'd check your other batteries as well.

                        The flexible part of the cable should be mechanically secured. The boundary between the solder and the wire has failed. Takes some effort to damage that. Not many lipos last that long.

                          Can get them for about 30 quid here. I guess that's about the difference of getting them to the UK and paying the import cost. If you sent a container load might be worth while.
