Li-Po Fire - Another classic case of not balance charging

On that thread someone was parallel charging using a PL8 when a cell failed. The PL8 stopped the charge. Someone else tried to recover a cell by cycling and caused a fire. There seems general agreement that not balance charging is a cause of some fires.Flasher 450 Sport. Assan GA250 with 520 tail servo, MKS DS450 cyclic.

I have a 6s 5000 with a bad cell ( 1.4v) !! I tried to bring the cell up in my pl8 and it goes briefly into 'safety charge' but rejects the pack as bad.Originally posted by Mark_T View PostI don't think a PL8/6 will even let you do an unbalanced charge on anything over a 2S lipo pack for safety reasons.
Was very interested in Hayden's post about charging the bad cell on a nicad charge to slowly rebuild it ??sigpic

Your PL8 is doing its job
You can still make up a charge lead to target the one cell via the balance wires but I'd suggest you do that outside and a long way from anything you value ...
I assume the total pack voltage also suggests the cell is faulty and it isn't just a balance wire making poor contact?
I think you'd get a different error from the PL8 if that was the case, but just making sure.

I recieved a duff battery from hobbyking where one cell was virtually flat, my pl8 brought it back up to where it should be but that cell still failed in flight. I guess there is no real way to revive a cell once its gone that far.Goblin 700
