i currently have the elite version of the 450 although i have to order parts from abroad they only take a few days to arrive and i love it to bits. not saying that i would instantly go out and buy the 500. i'd just like to have some more info on it same as i am interested in the progress on the compass atom. :)

It's been on the cards for a while but nothing seems be be happening much at RCer? Whilst a Dragonus 500 shoud be cool - it isnt really big enough for me comapred to the 450. What I would really want is a Dragonus 600 that would be stunning :D

I'm so chuffed with the 3 flights I've had with my Dragonus 450. It's either far more stable than I have been led to believe other 450 size helicoptors are - or, I'm a fantastic learner :D

(I dont think it's the latter!).

For parts availability - I was originally worried about that but to be honest this is 2008 not 1988 - you don't need to have a local model shop on your doorstep you can just go online and click "buy now".

I've ordered parts for my car from Japan and they've got here in 3 working days. If a company is good at it's job then you will be happy even if it is from the other side of the world. I've just ordered a dragonus crash kit from australia - ordered it at 5pm yesterday and by 8am today it was shipped! Obviously Technex was right about how good this company is. See how long my parcel takes to fly here now. (that is after all outside of the companys control!)

As for fitting - I would be interested to know what issues did you have Smoothound?

I had issues with the Ally head. Bearings were and absolute bastard to remove and refit. Also there was/is a plastic spacer between the bearings that gets trashed in a crash and at the time was unobtainium via Overlander or after various web searches. I could get parts for my T-rex any where and the Dragonus was an absolute nightmare.

On top of this the build is/was complete pants!! Fiddling around with tiny nuts, bolts and threadlock to join the frames and bottom plate rather than screws and threaded inserts is completely crap in my opinion ;)

I could say more but it may have changed since I had my Elite but suffice to say the T-rex dumps on it for build/repair speed and ease even if align screws are made of cheese ;)

It flew well but was just crap from a repair/build/keep in the air point of view :(

Hmm I have the plastic head and haven't battered it into the ground yet.

I agree with you about the silly nuts and bolts on the frame though. I was looking at dragonus kits the other day and apparently all newer (not sure date this started) kits now come with threaded inserts / nuts bonded to the frame as you suggest - so no more piddling about with needle nose pliers, or micro spanners, or micro sockets :D

I also think that all bolts should be alan key to be honest. Much better than philips type.

Room for improvement it seems - but then nothing is ever quite 100% perfect is it? Always a niggle or two. :)

Yeah the plastic head is probably less hassle, my Ally one was a nightmare though :(

If they've changed the nuts and bolts thats a good thing.

Also they wouldn't dare do something so poor on a bigger heli ;)
