  • Difference between pcm9x and the pcm9xii

Is there any difference between these apart from 1 having 20 models and the other 30?

    Cheers

The dsx9v2 has a backlit screen

The pcm9 II doesn't have a backlight screen, just extra model memory

There was a champagne gold edition that had a backlight screen, but the std silver sets didn't

              Correct.

There were quite a few differences between the 9x and the 9xII. The software on each one was incompatible with the other so you couldn't swap models between them as far as I remember, but I can't remember the operational differences.

As Mark says, it was the Gold Edition that had the backlit screen and an extra 20 models memory up to a new total of 50, but it was still a 9xII, just blinged up a bit.

The 9xII went on to become the DSX9 in 2.4GHz output, and is still going today.

I sent my 9X in to MacGregor and had it upgraded to a 9XII for around £50, they might still offer this service if you are interested. There are software differences plus additional memories.

I think there's confusion here about the different models.

                      1. In the beginning, there was the 9x, maybe 10 or more years ago with 20 model memory.

                      2. Then came the 9xii (I had one of these) which had 30 model memory, no throttle timer start and no backlit screen.

                      3. Then came the 9xii mk2 (the gold edition) which had 50 model memory, backlit screen and throttle timer start.

                      4. Finally came the 2.4 GHz DSX9 set (I now have one of these), which is based on the 9xii software (i.e. No 2), with added model-match function.

Version 1 is not software comaptible with any of the others as far as I'm aware. Versions 2, 3 and 4 are all compatible with each other and you can easily swap modle data between the sets. Version 1 are rare as hen's teeth these days.

The original poster asked for differences between 1 and 2, not 2 and 3 (which seems to be causing the confusion maybe). That's how I read it anyway.

                      Clear as mud eh?

Steve Roberts is the man to give the final word on the differences.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah like i say ive swapped the pcm9xii for the pcm9x and just wanted to make sure that the only differences are the model memory size

I seem to remember having mine updated because the 9X didn't support 140 degree swash mixing, the 9XII does.

There are alot of differences between the 35MHz PCM9x and PCM9x2.

The PCM9x was only around for a matter of months before the 9x2 was introduced to replace it.

As far as helicopter functions go the main differences were swash plate types.

JR/MacGregor did have an offer going at the time where we would update the set to Mk2 for a nominal fee with JR supplying us CPU PCB's and then updating the old ones when they were returned to Japan.

This all stopped several years ago when requests for updates dried up and its now uneconomical to update the set because of the cost of the parts.

Forgot to also say that extra model memories were added with the PCM9x2 (thanks Matt!).

The more I think about it I also think that the PCM9x2 had more free mixers.

The main difference came in Acro & Glider modes.

Sorry but I dont have a 9x around any more to compare all the differences. I'll try and look through a manual when I get some time and will update ;-)
