In case anyone has an NEX E8 Leggero and wants to change the look of it (how likely is that :ack2: ). You may be interested to know that the Forza 700 canopy and tail body will fit with minimal mods.
When I first thought about doing this JR had tanked and Deeforce had not yet picked up the ball. Now some parts are back in stock, one being the Forza tail body clamp. It would not have been too difficult to substitute something else but with the original part it's totally easy.
First of all - there are a few choices, you could keep the stock E8 boom and chop the tail body down, which would then require modding the body clamp and drilling new holes in the tail body. Or you can get a Forza 700 boom and TT. I wanted to keep the tail body as-is because the extra length and the distribution of mass now makes it much easier to get a good C of G. With the stock E8 boom it was always a bit nose-heavy on a 12s setup, even with the lightest packs I have.
Unfortunately Midlands did not have the Forza booms but they did have a Vigor boom (many thanks to Trevor for the suggestion), which is about 1cm longer than the Forza (Forza boom is 813mm). I'll also mention... if you do not want to install a Forza tail body and just want to stretch the E8, the Raptor E700 boom and TT will bolt straight on - the only mod required would be drilling a hole for the tail case locating pin and fashioning a longer tail control rod.
Anyway, I got the Vigor boom, chopped about 1cm off as I didn't want it any longer than necessary. I made up a TT using an Easton arrow shaft and some spare JR TT end fittings. The tail body itself almost lines up with all the frame bolts, just required a little modding of the lower slots and as this is a Fusuno it wasn't perfect so a few bolt holes needed slight reaming, but in general it's a very easy fit.
I could now run longer main and tail blades if I wanted, I'm not sure exactly how long but certainly something like 680/690 with 105 or 110 tails (basically there is about 113mm extra clearance added with this boom).
It's almost done, just need to buy some slightly longer bolts that go through the frames and I still need to figure out the front canopy mounts (and the rear canopy mounts need to be a bit shorter so that it can fit closer together).
