  • My first JR

My new kit just arrived from Midlands, a JR NEX E8 Leggero. I have not yet owned a JR heli but as I always casually followed F3C it was one of the top brands that was always present along with the other big Japanese brands Hirobo and Kyosho/Quest.

This is what I consider to be the last of the old school JRs, before the newer Forza series and apparently it is already a discontinued model :grumpy: (which I knew before I bought it). But I'm not bothered about that and I'm sure (I hope) parts will be available if I ever need something.

I have also been interested to see how a smaller heli will work with three blades so this hopefully wins on two counts. I'm really looking forward to the build and the few people I have spoken with that own them say it flies great.

Back in the days when F3C had to be flybarred the JR Sylphide was (to me) the ultimate, everything about it is just so high quality. It was very expensive though. Then the E12 Ito edition was the more recent model I would have liked to have. But now my collection of 'keepers' has become about as many as I can manage and realistically still too many. :ack2:

The only JR heli I built was the Forza 450 with the 3 Blade head and I must admit the build went very smoothly. Im contemplating buying the new 550 having seen the pictures over the weekend !

Looks Nice S, still available in Japan and JR keep spares going for years so no worries there. Honestly use Rcjapan if you need any JR spares they have access to everything. Enjoying an Ito and SG E12 here fly brilliantly and light too.

          Enjoy the build.

I remember being quite disappointed when I came to the end of the build on my Sylphide, it had been such a pleasure to work on that I was sad that there was nothing left to do :)

I'll 2nd the suggestion to use RCJapan, they have been a pleasure to deal with every time I've ordered from them, didn't matter if it was the Sylphide or just some small bits and pieces they have always been prompt and accurate.

I managed to get hold of a Vibe SG E12 Hiroki Ito Edition before Christmas ready to build some time in the year.

Sourced the last one from JR in Germany as no one else had any in stock.

I have also just had a spare Canopy, specific main gear and a set of JR Blades come from RCJapan and not even started it yet.

Looking forward to it,had a quick look at it and it looks superb.

Like you good people I was a huge Jr fan and Hirobo
still got the Hirobo Eagle 3 WC VPUS system as cost so much yet worth nothing now so just fly it on a nice day

had a few Jr vibe 50s and vibe 90sg that was superb

nearly brought the NEX E8 like S did but thought I'd wait for the Forza 600 size

after having a few years away from Jr and align not bringing out any new kits
i took the plunge and got the new Jr Forza speed looking forward to flying that as missed building Jr helis

The last build I felt the same way, it was the Raptor E700 gasser conversion. I really got into the build process and when it was finished I kinda wanted to keep going a little longer (but I didn't get a chance to fly it very much and have just setup a Spartan VX-1 on it so that will be interesting).

I have only had time to just glance at the E8 kit as things have been busy with work. The drivetrain looks really chunky, the main gear is a slant tooth and quite tall, everything looks very sturdy.

The build has come along quite nicely now and the airframe is basically built now. The manual is very good, all the parts are in bags marked with the number of the build step in the manual, everything is illustrated clearly so that it's pretty easy to follow. Everything has fit together perfectly. There are loads of little areas where the attention to detail is extremely nice, to the point of some parts being arguably 'over engineered' but it makes it feel very high quality, like the end result they wanted to achieve was rarely compromised.

The blades look very nice, they're 600mm 125 grams. Interestingly I was reading where a prototype was being flown with Radix SB 600s, so apparently nothing really special is required but one feature of the JR blades that may differ from others is that they will fold back enough to fit into a blade holder.

So what's left now is electrics and servo linkage.

That blade holder didn't come with this kit BTW, if there was any flaw to be found it would be that the kit came with a two blade holder. The one in the pic is actually for the JR 550 so it doesn't quite fit like it should.

The only JR heli i ever had was a Vigor 90 back in the day,it was a fantastic model in every way.

Really like the JR stuff out now, quality of the modern stuff looks superb.

I really like Hirobo as well. I had a Sceadu Evo 50 and it was great but I eventually retired it and got an SDX which I converted to electric and it flew really well and was much more nimble than the Sceadu but was quite heavy even with fairly small packs and because it was still flybarred it needed about 2000 headspeed so flight times were short. So I retired it from service as well but later bought a custom G10 frame for it with some other blingy blue anodised bits, why I have no idea actually, and so it sits on the shelf waiting for me to decide what to do with it. But it looks great :abnormal:

The Hirobo eagle I brought that 10 years ago now coast 3k airframe only and the funny thing is it's still the current model and can be brought
i still fly it a few times a year although flybar is has a special VPUS system this stops interaction with the paddles during pitch
if you hold your hands on the paddles and raise the pitch up and down there is zero movement it flys a bit like a flybarless

at at the same time I brought the bling up sceadu evo EX was full carbon and alloy blue head from the box super heli and quite rare

love the E8 you built looks a super heli and bet it will fly nice hope you really enjoy it

The VPUS system is indeed very interesting and quite elaborate. The Robbe system 88 was another approach to try to eliminate interactions and worked very well. I have a Robbe Dyna-X with an OS91SZ and it flies great, I really should get it out again and burn some nitro.

Yeah, the collector side of me would love to have the whole Hirobo blue ali rotorhead but their high end stuff is so expensive.

                              This was the sceadu

thats how it came as stranded out the box I'd never seen another one like it
and bare in mind that was about 2004 about 10 years ago
