• MacGregor DataXchange Program

I guess Mark Christy could answer this but!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't get the program to recognise my DSX9 choose what.:(

I have downloaded and installed the 1.8 upgrade with success but still the program won't detect the radio to transfer the models across.

It says in the blurb on their site quote....

DataXchange supports the following transmitters

PCM10X Heli, PCM10X Aero, X3810ADT, X3810, X378, PCM9X, PCM9XII. DataXchange has also been tested on the new DSX9 and found to be compatible.
I am connecting through the USB cable supplied and the drivers are installed, The program opens fine on the pc but refuses to transfer.

Any info would be received with thanks.:)

Yes I can answer it :)

The DSX9 should be the same as the PCM9xII... and you can transfer from one to the other.. however for some reason the DataXchange is not recognising the DSX9... I am looking into it as I speak to see what the problem is as my old man has upgraded from a PCM9x to a DSX9 and also wants to know what the problem is!!!

Will hopefully have a solution shortly..

    Cheers

    Mark

p.s. I have never tested a DSX9 with the DataXchange so I don't know where those words came from that said it is compatible...

Thanks very much Mark, I look forward to your findings.:cheers2:

Please keep me posted on this situation if you don't mind..:)

        A quick update..

I had my old man run some tests last night with his DSX9 and the DataXchange software.. and it all worked perfectly apparently!.. He just chose PCM9xII as the transmitter type and everything is working as expected. He even converted a PCM9x memory to a PCM9xII and uploaded it to his DSX9... so we're both a bit stumped. It should have always worked.. and it is now doing.. why it didn't work a few days ago we have no idea!.. Have you tried yours again since?

        Cheers

        Mark

Just a bit more to try and help..

You said it didn't transfer anything at all. Have you made sure you have the correct COM port selected in the DataXchange software?

The USB adaptor just adds an extra COM port to your computer which then needs to be selected under the DataXchange software. If you look in Control Panel and System you should see an extra COM port listed beyond the standard COM1 and COM2 ports. Probably something like COM7.. With that information choose the correct port in the DataXchange software before attempting any transfers..

            Cheers

            Mark

              No luck here Mark unfortunately.:blush5:

Located the software on Com 4 and although it tries to read it comes up with this error everytime..:(

Put the DSX9 into transfer mode and all looks good until you try to send the data.

Well that is more of a clue now..

You are not getting any data what so ever down the line which means either the USB adaptor is faulty or the actual DataXchange dongle is..

Have you got a machine where you can plug straight into the COM port without going through the USB adaptor?

Also have you located some proper Vista drivers for the USB adaptor?

                Cheers

Since I posted that an hour ago Mark I have made a transfer via the "Unlisted" TX but cannot do any editing etc because it says "not supported" when I access the file I saved.:(

When I transfer the same file back to another memory on the TX it goes back ok but the saved settings "ie" my T-Rex 450 throttle & pitch curves settings etc are not there although it said transfer successful.

I doubt very much you did do a transfer in the unlisted mode.. did you see the progress bar move when you transferred from the transmitter to the PC?

The unlisted mode does no checking of the data at all and just accepts anything.. also the PC may say it has transferred ok back to the transmitter.. but unless the transmitter says ok too then it hasn't transferred.

The fact you are getting a time out message when you choose PCM9xII shows that nothing is getting from the transmitter to the PC which means either a) Faulty USB adaptor b) faulty DataXchange dongle or c) Bad USB drivers..

If you can plug it into a PC without the USB adaptor it'll help narrow the problem area down for us..

                    Cheers

Just to leap in here, COM 4 sounds like an unlikely setting. If you are using the USB adaptor, its more likely to be COM5. Com 1-4 are usually reserved for the on board ports - even when there aren't any (if that makes sense!). For example, my laptop has no onboard com ports, but recognises the USB dongle as COM 5 anyway!

This would also explain the "time-out" errors - its looking at the wrong port!

I'm not familiar with Vista (I'm a Linux person), but on XP you can determine which port the dongle has grabbed by looking in the device manager. One of the com ports (usually 5) will say USB Com port - or something similar.

Initially I couldn't transfer stuff to my DSX-9 either, but then Mark asked me to create a blank PCM9X2 memory in the DataXchange and try to upload that. I did , and it worked perfectly, and since then, it has uploaded everything that I've thrown at it! I have no idea why it didn't work initially, nor why it has changed, unless uploading the blank memory "kick started" something in the DSX-9!!!

Well this says I did do a transfer Mark although its all new to me.

Yes you are correct Mark, Transfer on the computer says its done but it still says "Receiver Stand By" on the tranny.:(

Sorry Mark but the old serial adapters are old hack now and both my computers have no serial ports sadly.:(

When I saved the said file from the "Unlisted" TX this is what it saves in My Documents if its any help.

I feel this dongle needs replacing myself, Bought from Midland Helis only a few weeks ago. Do I contact them or MacGregor direct to send this back.

                          UPDATE...

Don't ask how or why but I have now saved all my models to the computer and can read them on the DataXChange program.:cheers2:

                          Curves/settings the whole lot.:)

                          Problem No 2 now..:blush5:

I have tried to send the model back to another channel on the TX but failing somehow.

Again its just knowing which settings to apply and which button to push.:(

Ok.. well we're one step closer now! :)

Now what do you mean by failing?.. do you get an error message on the transmitter?.. or does it say received ok?

On all but the PCM10x series of JR transmitters you can not transfer into the currently active model memory.. Therefore if you have model memory 1 loaded the data from the PC will only go into slots 2 to 30... so don't go looking at model 1 for your changes because it won't be there..

                            Cheers

I was thinking that Mark, My models are on memory 1/2/3/4/5

I tried saving one of the saved models back to memory No: 11 and it said No: 12 so I checked both 11 and 12 memories and nothing in either.

Have set the TX to "Receive" on model 12 but its defaulting to model 13, Not a problem really.

I am getting "Error 18" on the TX.
