  • GWS esc's install problem.

    Hi there,

After burning out my original Hummingbird mixerboard I have gone the esc separate route. I bought the GWS ICS-50 for the tail motor and the GWS ICS-100 for the main motor.

I have connected both esc's to the ni-cad so that they both get 9.6v. I have disconnected one of the BEC supplies to the receiver, connected both esc's to the receiver. Both channels that are connected to the esc's are set to off/low setting.

And thats it, nothing happens, other than the esc's get very warm.

I have tried this with just the one esc connected at a time but still get the same response.

This heating up, is this normal, and any ideas as to why I get no response from anything?

    Can anyone please help.

    Thanks

    Hi MrTango,

I have found with the stock Protech ESC in one of my zoom 400's that they do get warm, that was even just setting up the radio gear on the bench with the motor disconnected. So the fact that yours get warm I don't think is anything to worry about particularly, just as long as they don't get too hot.

When you say you have the 2 ESC's connected to the receiver, the one driving the main motor will need to be connected to the throttle channel on the RX for sure, the throttle being on channel 3 in most cases, but do check the instructions for the RX just in case.

The tail motor ESC is a different ball game though, as the standard hummingbird mixer baord will have a gyro function built in to be able to manage the speed of the tail motor to give the effect of a gyro stabalised tail. In your case you will need to both make absolutely sure the BEC function on the tail motor ESC is switched off and also connect it to the rudder channel of the RX, which is normally channel 4, via a gyro of some sort.

When you mention being set to the low/off setting, do you mean the settings on the transmitter for the two channels, or are you meaning settings on the ESC's themselves?

Also what sort of transmitter and RX are you using?

    Cheers,

    Pete.
