X7 - Just got one!

Just bagged myself the last X7 over at FL. I was resisting well until I saw the email from FL this morning advertising the new site with 5% discount. I deliberated all day and then dropped it into the basket only to delete it before checkout. Eventually made a decision to grow a set and order it.

Setup will be as follows:

Motor: [B]Gaui GUEC GM-350S[/B] (when I can find it in stock!)

BEC: [B]CC BEC Pro[/B]
RX Pack: nil

Cupa, some bloke over on H Freak told me that I should get a couple of align torque tube bearing holders. Looking at the manual (page 15) it appears that a couple of bearing holders are provided. What did you use in your build?

I am very pleased with my Gaui X7 not sure what you mean, bearing holders?? everything should be in the kit! was in my one, good luck with getting the Gaui motor i do'nt think you'll have much luck, i have the 5020-520Kv scorpion more power than i can use (oh i dont post on H/F ether) my X7 esc-120HV+ powerjive, 5020-520Kv scorpion spectrum 6040 cyclic Savox 4096 tail Beast X V3 EDGE LE-693se FBL main blades EDGE 105 tail blades AR7600 rx no buffer or external Bec.

I'm on about the bearing holders for the torque tube, I asked the guy on hf why he would use the align parts and this was his responce:

The Gaui ones are hard plastic and have been reported to cause a bit of vibration compared to the Aligns. A handful of guys are running the Aligns and have had great results. Just the rubber bearing holders, not the bearings. Use the Gaui bearings. Also.. The stock ones are hard, with an O ring. The t700 ones are all rubber an I think dampen better and last longer.

The X7 looks great but one question.

95mm tails, they gonna hold the tail ok?

I had 95mm on my Srimok.

I tried them too James at one point and the tail kept letting go for me so went back. Maybe headspeed is key here.

High headspeed and they hold well but at what I run they didn't.

It'll be a few months before this is flying Martin, the kit and the vbar have left nothing but moths in my wallet. I've still got to get the servos, blades and motor. 5% discount is not much but it has almost paid for the speky sats.

EDGE 105's 0n my X7! only thing that blows out is me lol [EMAIL="idle1@1850"]idle1@1850[/EMAIL], [EMAIL="idle2@2100"]idle2@2100[/EMAIL] 6-7 mins ft with 20% left in the Turnegy 5000's i'm using at the mo.

Does look nice, only thing I'm not keen on is the mounting of the batteries on the side frames

Thay are'nt as quick to change as racked lipos, but very secure. some of the 5000mah 6s lipos (Turnegy) are a bit tight on the canopy, the Optipower 5000 6s packs fit peachy! unless you are X F1 pit crew i think it dose'nt matter how fast you can change a battery.

I have just placed an order for a Gaui motor from Dronesvision based in Taiwan, the web site listed that I would receive a confirmatory email shortly so I checked my mail. The very next email above the mail from Dronesvision was from FL say that the Gaui motor should be in stock at the end of the week! The same thing happened with the torque tube gear on my 500pro, back in stock the day after it shipped from China. So it's now 3-5 week wait + the admin charge from the post office/currier for handing me a piece of paper. Gutted!

get a decent rudder servo :-) i.e. just about anything but the 650.
95 mm tail blades for Chuck N. with headspeed 2300+ (manual page 31 at the top), 105 mm for ordinary people.
The stock torque tube bearing holders work fine for me at the moment.

I got 4200 mAh Hyperion packs today, and with them the heli became slightly tail heavy. Now the ESC moved to the front tray, and it's balanced (without the "heatsink", it's heavy enough...). For "big air", you'll probably want it mildly nose-heavy.

The mini V-bar is pretty clumsy to install, and there is very little space for the wires. I know, GAUI is marketing a mini V-bar in Asia, but some decisions are probably made by the marketing guys (probably couldn't get the full-size one in yellow...)
I'll post some pictures in a minute, see for yourself.
