  • My venture into FBL

As a few of you know i have a newish Compass Atom, had afew flights stock setup, then decided to convert to fbl.
    Bought a s/h head and a Beastxv2 this afto.
Its got Align 510's on cyclic and 9254 on tail.

After all nite reading the manual etc think i've got it sussed.
2 problems: one of the Align servos has play on the bearing,is it a common problem with these servos,my other 2 seem fine.
Plus i'm getting about 8 degrees pitch in setup 'j' just as the blue light comes on,balls on the swash are the 'nearer' ones ie without the washer,i could move the servo horn balls towards the servo screw but would make the horns-swash linkage a biggish angle,so is colour red ok or should i move the horn ball?
    thanks..

    Hi Brod,
It has to be blue, so I would go back to the start, I have recently just gone fbl using beastx and had to go through the setup twice as all is not clear in the manual ;-)

Thanks Danch, well i've just moved the horn ball in to a nearer the centre hole on all 3 servos and its blue at 7 degrees now.I'll move it further tomoz and should get blue, the linkages will be way off vertical though.

Sounds good Brod, main important thing is you have blue

Going back through mine tomorrow to fine tune a few things :-)

I think 15-15.5mm should get you 6 gegrees.

the angle on the rods is a "feature " on this machine when it is converted to FBL

Hi Asid, inner servo arm hole is 17mm by my measurements, you are right 15-15.5 would probably do it BUT servo arms set midsticks level, horizontal, would leave a whopping arm linkage angle, would it not be better to lengthen linkages, move the servo arm down a few notches and get the 90 degree on servo arm/linkage for better linear movement?

i would drill new holes buddy and take it from there

stripped the dicky servo down and found the bearing missing as in this picture.
no wonder it was wobbling on its axis!

It doesn't have to be blue but it is recommended. As long as you set this step to 6 degrees it should be ok. My 250 would be red at this step regardless of servo/links but it flew amazingly well. If you can get blue then try to do that but it's not like it wil explode if it's just in the red.

                        cheers,tinkering now..so we shall see.
found an old futaba servo with a bearing which fitted the Align 510 servo case so alls well on that front..

got it at 6 degress with red lite, blue lite was 8,so gunna try it later and see if it works..lol
Geometry with these Algn servos if i drill holes nearer the centre.is gunna be wrong giving no linear pitch and cyclic throws as stick is moved.

You need to reach the blue light at 6 degrees just so that the BeastX knows your geometry is setup right. It's true that even if you don't get a blue light at 6 degrees your heli will fly wel, but than the unit is not optimized for this setup.

So to be right on the Atom 500 in combination with the BeastX you need 15.5mm as a minimum to reach the blue light at 6°.
