I have DS510s in my Atom also but I would definitely recommend a full size tail servo such as a DS620, DS650, 9254, 9256 etc.

If I was in your position and already had a set of DS510s I would use them. However if I was buying from new I think I would try a set of Futaba 9650s of MKS 9660a.

When using the 510s I find their motion a bit steppy although the heli seems to fly fine with them :). It may be the same for the 9650s etc but I have yet to find out.

Also if you are using Align servos on the Atom you have to use the supplied Futaba servo arms. They will be a VERY tight fit but they do go on. The standard align servo arms will not give you the clearance between the servo case and ball link that you need.

thanks bolders its just that the 9650 are very expensive and I had three align 510 from my trex seen a brand new 2nd hand airframe and motor for 160 squids, would the align 500 ESC fit the bill?

The stock Atom ESC is a 60Amp unit. I believe the Trex 500 ESC is the same so there should be no problems.

The price of the 9650s was the reason I went for DS510s also. Like I said if I already had a set of DS510s I would use them. They are fine in the Atom and are used by many people with no problems.

BTW did I mention that I love my Atom :D

You will find spares prices are higher than the Rex 500 if you go to Weston (UK distributor). If you order from RC711 in Hong Kong the cost of an order (including shipping) is approx half that of Weston. By ordering things from RC711 ownership costs are no more than for Rex 500 but imo the Atom is a better heli. I have placed one order from RC711 and had no problems at all and order was with me within 2 weeks.

To ensure I am not out of the air after a crash I bought a spare airframe as spares which allows me to order from RC711 at my leisure. I paid about the same as you have quoted for it. The Atom is not popular in the UK so resale values are low (which is great if you are buying second hand :))

                Tottaly agree with this

I think the Atom is the best 500 out there. I used 9650 and it was sooo accurate.

Just a shame we get ripped off in the UK for spares. I also used rc711 with no problems to get around this

                Good luck

I like MKS 9660a+ with the MKS 8910A+ on the tail
There fast and strong and make hardly any noise!
