  • What a omg day.

Dont no about the rest of the country or world but Kent was OMG weather. Not a spot of wind and blue skies. Done four packs through the 6hv and she is on form. getting me backwards 4 point rolls sorted and getting in the groove with my tail down funnels. Well done to John on passing ya A test and Gareth your flying is getting bang on mate and just a shame that the O.S let ya down in the 3d+ but what you did get out of it looked like you was really enjoying it, even thoe it was a nitro lol.

Yeah, smashing weather in Surrey. 'Had some tuning issues with the Raptor 90 as I had not tuned the engine before and curiously the manual I had brought with me shows a different carb, so no clue where to set the mid needle (I'll figure this out before the next time). The Ely.Q flew nicely even though the pilot was rubbish :-) I just wasn't on my best form and got in some seriusly ugly situations, all of which I luckily bailed out of, I just wish no one had been there to see it :-o But good fun nonetheless.

I think I will start building up a Compass Knight 3D. I have had the airframe for ages. I'll prob sell the venerable Raptor 50 and use the RX and gyro etc. on the Knight.

if its an os in the raptor 90
set the mid to 1/2 turn out
set the high and low then adjust the mid

i think the std setting is 1 1/2 - 2 turns out on the mid without finding a manual

if its the c spec pumped engine with the extra needle fitted to the return, the needle works backwards to the others ie in to richen, out to lean

Yes, it is an SX C-spec with a pump. So the extra needle works backwards! That's pretty trippy. The manual I have shows a carb with only the main needle ! All I have been able to find is info for non pumped engines with the mid needle.

Gareth it seemed a million miles away from what the temp was the other morning when we was flying lol.... (cant feel the fingers) Trillian dont focus on the bad things just the good things and top idea on breaking out the k3d it will bring your flying on leaps and bounds. I no mine did. Dirk fingers crossed mate, my batts are all charged and good to go again..... just need to wait for the other half to get home and im out to play. That will make seven days in a row. Come on.. i really do have the bug at the mo.

the mid needle reduces the amount of fuel returning back to the tank
there is no base settings supplied with the needle kit
i'd start with 2 turns out and try it
at worst you will not go over lean on the mid as the std set up didn't restrict the return flow
as it had no needle there just a banjo bolt

Ah, I think I see what's happening there. I'm not sure where I ended up with it but will start from scratch again next time, probably take it over to Epsom Downs on the hover patch until it's running smoothly. I'm pretty sure it's too rich at the moment. I hovered around a bit and then did one little backflip and it bogged badly (and this is still a 60 sized airframe running SAB 660mm blades, that engine should pull like a freight train).
