  • 6HV/Stock ESC/RX Pack

Went down to the field today hoping to maiden Sean's (Sealee) newly built 6HV.

By the time I got there he had managed to fry his ESC :(

He is running a seperate 2S LiPo that plugs straight into his AR7100. One thing I noted was that he also had the red lead off the stock ESC rx lead still attached.

I am guessing that due to this, the ESC was subject to ~ 7.4V from the rx pack and also the 6V the BEC on the ESC was putting out.

    Sound about right?

If so, is it just a case of cutting the positive lead of the ESC rx lead to disable the BEC?

    Cheers

It is the standard ESC but it does have a BEC. It is switchable between 5.5 and 6V. :cheers2:

the stock compass ESC does not have a bec, so the red lead doesnot matter if plugged in, i have the same ESC on my 600 and havent had a problem running with a separate bec. but what i have notice is the esc is very sensitive to timing, has he set it right, i had mine get piping hot when set to 8HZ and 7 timing and it didnt pop but would have, as it was on the bench i could smell it getting hot (burning electric smell) so i switched it off, then changed the timing to 12hz and 15 timing and all is well, i thing the compass motor timing is 12hz and 22.5

Interesting, the manual clearly states that it has a BEC ???

If it is the case that the ESC does indeed not have a BEC, maybe the problem is that he had the lead plugged into the unregulated side of the RX?

70 Amp HV doesn't have a bec, its in the manual but it doesnt work, if he has bec then its not a HV esc, it the normal 6s ones and that would explain why it fried.

That is odd, the standard part shipped with the kits doesn't have a BEC.

Have they changed the ESC that they are including with kits recently?

I am only going off the fact that the manual shows the BEC. If it doesnt have one it must have been something else. Maybe the unregulated supply straight into the ESC?

Hmm, mine never had a bec and I run a separate one. Never disconnected any wires.

Actually found it to be a very good esc :)

Polarity was fine apparently. I wasn't there when the burning took place :)

another thought the stock esc comes with 2 Rx cables on is short used for programming and other long one is the Rx one. which one was plugged in.

if a battery power was sent through the Rx to esc wire and aided in the turning the motor the amp draw will melt the RX to Esc wire, ask how i know :).

a very tight gear mesh can also toast an esc on start up, but the ESC is rated to 110amps burst so this might not be it.

if not it might just a bad Esc :(
