  • New 3D clutch binding?

    Hi,

I'm just finishing building my 3D and I have a concern about the head binding . When I rotate the head it doesn't spin freely. By process of elimination I have discovered that it is the clutch binding on the main gear. The main gear is a little out of true. This is my first "brand new" heli and part of my thinks that, as soon as I fly it, the metal splines of the clutch will wear the plastic slightly and, effectively wear away and high areas. Has anybody else noticed this when they built theirs, and is this normal on a new heli? (I have removed the engine so it's definately not that...)

    Thanks
    Simon

    Hi there.

Mine did bind a bit at the beginning, but it's no problem now.

Ade set mine up and I'm sure he would have mentioned if it were a problem.

        Ade,

I have removed the engine and the starter shaft, leaving just the clutch hanging from the bearing carrier. It still binds slightly, making the head feel a little rough when you spin it. I think it is where the main gear isn't perfectly round.

chris have you pulled them out and regreased them? make sure you dont over tighten the lower jesus bolt or it deforms the collar and locks it up.

flying it until it breaks is def not recomended.

pre-emptive maintance is the order of the day. if you know something is wrong, work out what is wrong and why then fix it.

Even a maverick like me can't agree with your reasoning there. What happens if you lost it and hurt yourself or somebody else? I know the chances are small but even so.....

                      Guys,Guys

I was speaking Metaphorically,i would NEVER fly an unsafe heli intentionally

A locked main 1 way brg is hardly gonna cause a problem,it just makes autos more interesting:D

                      Ade

The lower Jesus is not too tight,,i have stripped them, regreased and 1 helis has seized again,,

My rappys suffered from this,i am not worried about it

                        Fixed it !!

Just in case it happens to anybody else... It was simple really. I loosened off the upper bearing that holds the clutch/starter shaft. I then reinstalled the engine before retightening the bearing. Problem solved!

Thanks to all who tried to help, I should have tried this first really :o
