sounds promising must of been difficult sourcing the correct KV motor for 12s because without major mods there was no gear options? here mine flying.....didn't realise its been that long Lee Bates Knight 50 8s Electric - YouTube
Cool! I really enjoyed your flying in that video. Yeah, where does the time go, it's friggin scary!

On the motor KV, actually 510KV works out pretty good. With the stock gears you have an 8.7 to 1 ratio so 510KV on 12s sits pretty well with a governed headspeed between 2100 and 2200 ish for the whole flight, or a bit lower if you're running an ESC with active freewheeling or not demanding lots of power.

You could fit the 6HV main gear but it would require a lot of grinding of the frames for it to fit. I bought a 6HV gear a while back when I first started gathering stuff for the Knight project but after seeing how well the Hirobo SDX works with the same gear ratio I decided to just leave the stock gear on it for now. It would be easier to just put a 450kv motor in if the goal was much lower headspeeds but I think it should be in the sweet spot around 2200, we'll see.

I'll be interested to see if the Vortex is just as happy with the geometry you get with the stock grips. It was my theory they're just in spec, I'm sure I have seen FBL heads with similar grip arm spacing.

I suppose if you need less throws to servo travel ratio you could move the servo balls to more inner positions and accomplish the same thing.

Mine is using the 6mm feathering shaft and right now I have the clear (I guess 80 duro) dampers but with the metal Ely.Q grips it should be pretty rigid overall. I got the Ely.Q swash driver as it comes with the arms and everything you need. I'll see how it flies with that setup and then try to determine if the Ely.Q headblock is going to leave the blades a safe distance from the boom and if so (and if I can get super hard dampers for it) that should make a huge difference in roll rate. I'm guessing it will be quick enough as is but I did like the look of it with the lower headblock.

I have had a boomstrike on a K3d with the clears before Sheryl so Id be a bit worried about the head height if going mental with it. Sport youll be fine just dont try piro flips LOL

For me knowing what I do about the K3d id Keep the height and fit the delrin dampers (they did them for the 6mm spindle too)

Geometry wise mine is spot on. the links run right down the centre of the shaft and I agree the balls are quite close to the pivot axis but ive already counter acted that by moving the balls in on the horns

Think mine was un goverened at 2150.....my flying has come on alot since then hopefully, although i dont do much these days, i tried fbl on the stock modded head even with 11 servo wheels the geometery was pants because of the swash to grip ratio being to great it needs wider spacing between the grip arms, giveing less pitch on swash deflection needed for good resolution on most fbl units
              cheers Lee

If it ain't broke fix it until it is

That brings a nostalgic tear to my eye! Last of the "proper" compass machines there along with the 6hv atom 3dnight ect. Now Zee Germans are designing them ( which means they never break and are nearly indestructable so not a bad thing ).

Well let us know if you spot any of the painted grp canopies as they seem non existant now. Do you know if the Knight 3d plus or 6hv canopy will fit the older Knights?

A while back when I was shopping for what I hoped would be the perfect all-rounder heli I had narrowed my choices down to the 6HV or the Beam Avantgarde. It was really almost a coin toss deciding between them and I chose the Beam because it was new and different and very stylish etc. Now I am wishing I had chosen the 6HV because the Beam has proved less than reliable and what I want is a rock-solid airframe that is thoroughly engineered and time-tested not trying to reinvent the proverbial wheel. There was no way I would have known the issues with the Beam and actually if they just redesigned a few things (namely the tail assembly and the one-way assembly) it would be fine, it ticks all the boxes in every other way.

This 600e is mainly for the purpose of testing FBL units because I didn't want to start pulling things off the Beam as I had it flying perfectly with the Total-G. So I probably won't be flying it long term, I'll sell it on or retire it as a static model.

I should mention on here, many thanks to Trev (aka dillwhacker) for fabricating the little adaptor I'm using on the 6mm motor shaft to fit the existing upper pinion support.

I have just ordered the delrin inserts with o-rings so that should really make boomstrikes nearly impossible as the max teeter is seriously limited.

Ive got some ely q plastic grips in my box so if I cant get the resolution with the K3d Grips ill Ghetto convert them LOL

Or I could stop being tight and buy a 6hv head!

I still got my knights ( they are in the attic until I fly again ) . TBH I love the way they fly after grip flipping and some modding to the drive train and 8mm spindles and all is well . You can use kbdd << I think thats what they called lol dampeners in the 8mm and just use an extra shim both sides of the dampeners to pull it in. Works perfect ;)

I still got grp cano's as well :) .. oh and a fusano one as well hehee!!

Yeah, I saw those and the blank one from Heliproz is a possibility but a bit pricey by the time it's posted over and then painted etc. Apparently Elite do not actually have stock even though it's on their website.
