Hi All. Here's a pic of my avro just after putting a new OS91 in. Muffler is on its way and will be here in a few days hopefully. It is setup for F3C and I hope to compete with it. CCPM is via Hitec HS5625MG digitals and I have a GY701 gyro/governor for it. Waiting until next payday to get a BLS251 for the rudder and have decided to fit a SG Reactor X2 regulator. I have NHP 710mm mains, but need to get tails and paddles. I was thinking of Radix 105mm tails and Rotortech F3C paddles.

Hi Ant, how's the Avro coming along now, nearly two months later? That's a great looking canopy!

I always love flying the Avro but keep having niggling problems that can only be put down to bad luck, first with the check valve (YS91SR), then a lean run due to pressure leak, fortunately no apparent damage to the engine and autoed down OK, then I installed a TJ Pro which worked quite well and then the Spektrum backplate sensor housing broke into tiny pieces so the gov stopped working. I have fixed it but not tested it yet.

Avro almost done. All that's left is the flight battery. I was offered an unused 3300mA 2S lipo, but the seller and I keep missing each other. I feel the NHP's are too light and plan to put Radix FAI blades on. Hope to test in a couple of weekends.

I tried the Radix FAI blades a while back and they felt too heavy but at the time I did not have a governor installed. I am using a pair of SAB 710's now ('don't know what model number they are) and they're working fine for the moment but I might try the Radix blades again now that I have the TJ Pro on there. The thing about the Avro rotorhead is the grips are spaced very wide, so it makes the disc area larger than it would be with some other helis.

Finally got the new lipo pack for the rx. Turned out to be a flightpower 3700mA 2S flat battery and because of the delay, the seller gave me $5.00 off. Got it home only to find that it is way too long, so ordered a Nano-Tech 2S 3000mA lipo from HK. This fits just right. Saturday was beautiful flying weather and went to the Melbourne Heli club field. I ran a tank through the engine at 2 turns on the needle and the governor set to 1500rpm. The heli is very stable with the Radix blades and had good hang time in TH. The GY701 was a little unsteady in HH, but I put this down to the engine being rich.

On the second flight, leaned the needle out by a 1/4 turn and it held better. However after this flight, found the Lipo at 53%! At the club I cannot go onto the flightline until I have my Bronze wings (equivalent to the A), so did this on the third outing. I noticed the heli making a clicking sound and when I hit TH, the engine died. The avro has a strange setup in that the clutch is bolted to the fan with 4 hex bolts and nyloc nuts. I thought the crankshaft nut had come loose, but in fact all these bolts had sheared. The heli is well designed in that it is quite quick and easy to get the engine out. A new fan cost me AU$12.00, but it's a mystery as to why the bolts sheared in the first place.

I am now on the hunt for bigger capacity lipos that are compact enough to fit inside the canopy.
