A gratuitous post to keep the avro section going:)

I drove to the field, got out of the car..realised I'd left the glow stick behind.... Doh!

    ...Drove back to the field...

I've been trying to work on my inverted circuits with the 600/700 as a cheaper option if I bog it and backwards upright..but Blitzy got a go today due to all the trex clutch issues.. just the safe stuff.. circuits, stalls, flips, ticktocks and some inverted short bits and a few double axial rolls...and some sideways loops..

Gordon turned up..he flies pattern planks (and he's good) and we took turns in the air. It was really nice to hear him come up and comment about how true Blitzy flies and how neat the axials were...defo more heli than me!!!:):):)

Yeah it's been mostly tumbleweeds and the sound of an old metal sign swinging in the wind :)

Most posts seem to be about problems. Maybe we should count ourselves lucky that the Blitz has few if any issues?

Apart from my planetary impact having negative effects on flight performance:)...but that was a few weeks ago now and it's flying good.

I think blitzy might get an on-board glow and a gov soon, though..

I think what I might do as soon as I can get some good pics (and lately that is easier said than done with the lack of sunlight) I'll do a good comparison between the Avro and the Robbe Futura. I fully realise that aboslutely no one will be the slightest bit interested really :)

Just find somewhere to meet up and I'll bring a decent camera....if memory serves the 70mm zoom on my canon has a 90 mm front lens?..should pick up enough light even now without the flash (don't use that enough either)...

..and if it's possible to dig someone like squeaky out of their pit to tune it properly...

I have a new camera now. It's still a cheap and cheerful point and shoot thing but it's better than my previous one. However, the low-light performance leaves much to be desired, 'very noisy in low light and colour saturation gets a bit wonky. But I have shot quite a few pics of fast moving planes out at Epsom Downs and some look pretty decent (considering the limitations of the 5X optical zoom).

It is a shame the avro isn't the hit it should be, but to be a 3d machine it needs to shed some weight and simplify some areas, so that cost of parts can come down.
Unfortunatly Blitz i think were also hit by the popularity of the 700, if only they could get some investment to design more 3d driven machines, as in the market place, this is what sells helis

I agree shame they couldn't re-design those frames and drive system loose weight and become a 3D machine/version.

also a shame no UK shops touch it but then its not gonna sell in any real numbers now as you say 3D machines sell here more than anything else.

I'm not actually so certain the weight issue isn't a bit of urban myth but I don't have exact RTF all up weights for the top helis to know if it's really on the porky side or not.

Price-wise it's just a bit more than the Srimok or the N9 but much less than the top FAI helis.

As far as 3D, I don't know if anyone has ever really tried to make it competitive as it has kinda come out of the gate targeted as more of an FAI machine.

I siggest checking the weight against other helis before making assumptions...

                        Blitz gross wt 4.6kg
                        Synergy N9 4.71kg
                        Avant aurora 4.1kg

Anyway I thougt it's prime aim was as an F3C machine although it as 3D setups.

I agree that there are areas that could be updated in design but not because they are 'bad' just ebcause newer ideas have come in. What it has is looks, style, simplicity, easy assembly/diassembly.. and most importantly it has very easy, instant access to the guys that designed it and make the parts...world class customer support!!!!..and dead, dead easy to pull the engine or fuel tank..and even in my hands it flies straight as a die..and even in my hands I can pull three axial rolls in line with each other...it's that forgiving

I'd say it needs to shed a few 100 grams 1st before the main guys would touch it for 3D.

Don't get me wrong of helicopters i'd like to actually own the Avro is one of them and i'd have one if the cash flow permitted it.

I know it will 3D but thats not the market its aimed at and it could do with a revamp to hit the 3D market.

weird really.. everyone goes for a supposed 3D machine and what percentage can actually fly 3D out of .90 owners?
The only concern with a small production volume is persistentce in the market..and Blitz have shown themselves to be long stayers. The owner seems happy with his small market and provides that excellent support..perhaps he doesn't want to be mainastream and stressed although it would help the image if they blinged it to chrome anodising ..but then that would shine/glint/blind..but sell...
