I know the 720 is a very good gyro, but I don't have the skill or patience to just to get it right, even for simple sport flying. I have sold all of mine and now use the "plug and play" GY520. It works very well straight out of the box.

Neal got back to me re the phasing pins .. and Yes, they can disconnect from the washout when the servos aren't powered!
I'm on the case to fettle myself a solution .. a simple collar interfers with the swash movement here... working on a domed sleeve and grubscrew when i get the chance ... practice my hand filing, I suppose:)PGK

Dont really see the need to make a modification for this Never see this as an issue when I had mine. Surely you would see if this has happened prior to starting?
It only ever happened to me if had had physically moved the swash. It never happened apart from that as the servos don't move on their own.
Excellent Heli, loved it, Neal is great. Just get fed up with buying fuel and tweaking engines! :)James

Nice looking heli- found this vid on the Avro website- amazing, though I suspect the pilot is a bit beyond novice :P

All true. BUT I follow the rule that if there's something dumb you can do.. then sooner or later I'll do it:(
As for electric... Yes , it's the future now... but it's still a pain unless you have leccy on site, don't want to fly more than 4 mins at a time and like carting bombs with erratic timers about. A few more years and lipos will be many times more powerful for their weight and size and the only alternative. At the moment I'm enjoying getting my hands dirty and frying engines.PGK

Got it in the air today!
No heli fliers about and my tach doesn't work so it was all seat of pants stuff..
I knew it was rich on my settigns but so many varied suggestions for needle setting on this crank pressured OS90SZ with cline reg that I had to work from cautious..
Even dumbo could figure it was way way rich when the first tank and basic curve fiddles lasted 3 mins:).. the lack of smoke 'cos it was spitting fuel. Once I upped the headspeed then the airframe shake vanished.. obviiusly the head setup and dampers want it lots faster than I had it.
On the third tank this thing really came alive..it's probably still rich and both slightly twitchy but dead accurate (as far as my rubbish flying can tell). the tail is still soggy and there is a little vibration to sort showing up on the boom itself and until i finalise the electonic setup and have the small lipo on it's CoG is a bit nose light.
I was comfortable to tick tock it, axial rolls were pretty true (but may have to fiddle with phasing a touch) and a bit of inverted. :):):):)
I'll get assistance to fine it up and meanwhile look more closely at some of the mechanics.
It's a beautiful canopy but not so good to fly with on a dull day and nose in it has a sinister scary look like a hawk with it's beady eyes on me...
Some tuning and this is gonna be THE heli!!PGK

Still, remote as the possibility may be it just seems counter intuitive to have a potential danger lurking. If by some strange set of circumstances it slipped below the guides in flight you'd suddenly have some odd phasing and possibly a loss of control.
It's strange they wouldn't have just made the guides longer or have things configured in some other way where that cannot happen.Kasama, Minicopter, Henseleit, JR, Shape, Beam

Glad to hear you're liking it so far.
I am very interested in flying one at some point just to see how the controls feel and the way it handles etc.
The Robbes fly so straight and feel so stable it's hard to imagine getting much better in that regard (plus the smoothness of the belt drivetrain is something you can get spoiled to).Kasama, Minicopter, Henseleit, JR, Shape, Beam

Yer welcome to 'ave a go.. I kept the 3D settings as were.. can be made one hole more aggressive or much tamer..It's not unstable..just very responsive at the moment( except for some wander on the tail)..had to add expo to the tail and may add some to cyclics in idle up.. I have 20% in idle down.. does need tweaking generally.. can't expect to have it right just from bench setup and basic engine tune. My bench setups are usually pretty good..blades track within a few mm..just need to find the correct link that wants a half turn:)
If you want stable and dead straight then the Spectra is the one..It'll do double axial rolls on it's own...and cope with abuse to negative pitch on the way:)
I had a +/-12 deg collective mechanical i knocked down by a guessed 15% on the swash mix today.. might add some cyclic throw though..it's around 8 degs and didn't roll as fast as I wanted..but then again setting curves without a tach is a bit hit'n'miss (for me) Fitting a governor will take a bit of fettling and probably a new fan shroud since someones cut a hole in an illogical place..
Once I've got the engine giving full power then I expect this will have no trouble with full rangesPGK
im working this weekend again dude, so if u want it tuned ur have to wait till after champs, like on the monday coz im off then ;)
I told ya.. If you're going to keep earning then the drinks are on you!!
Anyway, you don't want to fly it too soon or you'll want one:):):):)
I'll work at it meanwhile.. borrowing Ivan's tach will be a good start and hope the carbsmart can protect it...PGK
