  • Vintage helicopters and VRHC web site

Unfortunately retirement did not quite go to plan and changing life circumstances mean that I have had to decide what I want to focus on as my multitude of interests are conflicting; I will also have to 'downsize' house wise in a couple of years.

Considering RC helicopters and the web site is very time consuming and has taken thousands of hours already... It therefore comes down to writing about them or building and actually flying them (not flown for 18 months!!!!). I have chose the later but luckily someone has come forward who wishes to continue the VRHC web site and I am in discussions for achieving a handover...

Regarding the models, I have nearly 250 helicopters and cannot see ever building/restoring them all and the house move also means no room for them all; as a result, half at least will have to go. They were all boxed up ready for this years 'failed' house move so I am currently retrieving the boxes out of storage for sorting. I intend to split them into three groups

    1. What I definitely / at the moment intend to keep for myself
    2. What is definitely for going
    3. What I may sell depending who its going to (also includes consideration for some in the first group...???)

The first group will be the UK models such as Morley's MM Larks, MFA etc plus all Electric helis' and the early models from the 70's all makes. The second group will be manufacturers, Kyosho, Kalt, MA, Bergen, Robbe, and my modern stuff such as the TT 109 etc. Third group will be Schluter, TSK and all the one off's...

It will take me a while to start listing machines and the ready built stuff will be first to go given a lot of heli's are stripped down and will need sorting to get back into selling condition.

Thanks to all the support over the years

    Joe

    Hi Joe,
Sounds like you have a mammoth task on your hands - good luck with it all and I hope the new owner of the site continues to run and update it like you have
You may remember dealing with my dad (raptor vs hirobo 505 swap) and he may be interested in some of your bits / models so I'll try to stay on top of all of your sales!
    Cheers!
    Paul

Sorry to read Joe, but I understand what a task you took on.

If it was not for your site the history would be lost.

Good luck with the sales and future.

              Sorry to hear this news...
Joe has helped me in the past with an old Kalt Baron 60 project I am working on....
Without his website I would have really struggled to find even the most basic of information.

The community really needs this information to remain and the models need to end up in the right hands.

At the end of the day the main thing Joe, is you have to be able to have fun and have time to do the things you want to do. You have looked after the website and those models for a long time so you have been an excellent custodian for this bit of model heli history.

I had a few vintage helis and just realised at some point that I wasn't going to get round to doing anything with them. I had a very complete Ishimasa Skylark, for example, but it was destined to just sit on a shelf in my room and it really needed some TLC and time put into it. I had a Kalt GS Alpha with crash damage and decided it was time to move it on.

I have kept a few Robbe Futuras, a Dyna-X and a Milli2 and I hope to fly them again in the near future. I'm always casually on the lookout for some of the Robbe Milli / Futura upgrade parts like the ali tail unit, metal main grips etc. And if anyone needs help with a Robbe Futura / Milli / Nova etc. I'm happy to help.

Sorry to hear that life hasn't been going to plan and I wish you all the best.

I have a bit of a hankering for old models so I will take a good look at your adverts when they appear.
