  • X50 Torque Tube

Just built a new X50 FBL torque tube Heli as after a couple of flights I am noticing some marks around the boom clamp indicating movement of the clamp due to vibration. Now I have carefully balanced the tail (and main) blades so can rule them out. I have read on a USA forum that some people are adding an additional torque tube bearing to remove excess tail vibes.

Just wondering if anyone else has tried two bearings in the tail, very much like the G4 has as standard?

Hi Scott, is the X50 like the trex500 where the bearing placement is not to be in the middle of the tube (off centre)?

my x50b with the torque tube conversion is running vibe free on the std conversion kit parts
but my rappy 60/90's have always had 2 bearings in

have you fitted the support bearing inthe middle of the boom
      if so off set it

also check the clamp is holding/clamping correctly
i had to sand a little off mine for it to clamp enough not to move

As everyone else has said already offset the bearing on the torque tube this has been a problem forever and on my raptors I fitted an extra bearing but I'm sure on the 50 size machines just moving it off the centre will do.

Be carefull with tail vibes on the x50 one I built recently had such bad tail vibes it broke the rudder rod & almost ended in disaster. This had a cgy750 on it that masked the vibes tremendously didn't notice a problem till the tail lost control.

            Thanks for the replies.

I have indeed offset the position of the tail tube bearing as per the build manual.

I will check that the clamp is clamping securely. Sounds like adding a second bearing in the tail wouldn't hurt either though so I may do that as well.

It's a fair point, I haven't checked the fan, doesn't seem too bad at idle but could be part of the problem. Maybe I will check that soon.

I only say because I bought a new fan recently and the tail vibes I got were horrific, put it on the balancer and it was very out of balance. Once I balanced it, the vibes were massively reduced - so i'm a convert

Hi. I am interested in X50 Torque Tube version. This version is supposed to be the top of the range model and surprised to know that the fan unit is out of balance. I have read about balancing the fan unit as well as the clutch shoe with Dial Gauge instrument and the aeroplane propeller balance unit, a long while ago. Can you post the topic of "How to balance the fan unit" and I would like to learn from you guys.

My Raptor 50 Titan SE original fan suffers out of balance vibration, all the bolts from the clutch shoes keep coming out including, the bolt head was snapped due to blue lock tight, the remaining broken bolt was left inside the clutch shoes. I replaced with Quick UK alloy fan upgrade and that problem was solved.

                    Thanks in advance. Htin
