  • Raptor 50 se titan fbl conversion

Hi all - my Raptor hit the ground with a bump this afternoon. I've not done a full assessment yet but wouldn't mind using this port unity to convert her a fbl heli.
Can I please for your input as to what fbl head kits are good and one to avoid. Also main blades too.
    Many thanks

It's a dead easy conversion fella.
Machine the ugly bit off the top of the STD head, obtain EliQ Vision 50 blade grips/arms and fit them (might need some small shims) Find something to use as an antirotation thingy (I used a Mikado one but just about anything would do) Then it's just two long linkage rods from the swash to the grip arms.
Worked really well and the heli flys great as FBL.
    Cheers
    D

      Hello maddog
I like your idea for a fbl conversion.
Is this the blade grips you mean?
      EQ2076 | METAL MAIN ROTOR GRIPS - VISION 50
and do they come with thrust bearings already installed.
The shim you mentioned, did you use one on each of the blade grips between the inner most part of grip and the head.
I see in your photo it looks like you've got some different pitch control arms that wrap around the main shaft. What are they if I'm right?

      Thanks D

I did a similar conversion with an Ely.Q and then later used those grips on a Compass Knight 600e. I think you'll only need the one pair of spacers as the Ely.Q headblock is the same width as the Raptor and uses the same feathering shaft. There should be two washers about 1mm wide that go between the dampers and the grips (one on each side). The main thing is just that you don't have slop in there where the whole thing can move side to side.

Here's the Knight; I'm using an Ely.Q swash driver but lots of different ones will work.

        And here's the first incarnation of the FBL Ely.Q using the stock plastic grips;

            Hi Trillian
Thanks for the info on what you have done with yours. Apart from the 1mm spacers, grips and grip arms, is there anything else I would need to get, what about blade grip bearings and dampeners.

            Cheers

I got my metal grips 2nd hand and I don't remember if they came with all the bearings or not. I had lots of Ely.Q spares so I would have had bearings anyway if they didn't come with them. I used the red Ely.Q dampers but other hard dampers for the Raptor should work fine as well. You can get the Ely.Q plastic grips really cheap (in fact I've given some away and may even have a spare set still). With the plastic grips you just have to attach some fittings with ball links because originally those grips have a mixer arm for the flybarred head. You have to use shorter link rods from the swash to the grips as the FB Raptor ones have to reach way up to the mixer arms. These days you can get some nifty turnbuckle links from heli Option in all sorts of lengths.

There's a few options to look at with what you've said. I'll have a look at heli option and see what there.
                        Thanks Trillian

                          dbull46,
Sorry for the late reply fella,
                          get these grips:
EQ-2076 Metal Main Rotor Pitch Housing

I think they're the same but considerably cheaper!

IIRC the STD raptor radial and thrust bearings are the right size for the grips but please satisfy yourself of that before you buy the grips.
I'm not totally certain but I might have a set of grips at home that I can measure if you like. Can't remember if I sold them though, it's been a year or so since I did mine and I don't have the bird now.

I remember though I was chuffed with the result, it flew really well, looked nice (IMHO) and was pretty cheap to do, about £35, again IIRC.
Only thing is I'd think it'd be a good idea to put in some decent servos if you don't already have them. I think my pitch servo was a 15Kg thing.

                          Hope that helps.

I used a Beastx in the one I did and I had no problems but I 'd actually advise against it since I've seen so many issues with the BX and vibration from nitro motors.
