  • Metal (upgrade) Tail Blade grips + Blades

    Hi guys,

I have recently fitted the upgrade Metal tail components to my Titan!
Looks SO sweet, however, the standard white tail blades don't fit snug in the new metal tail grips - they hang loose. Any suggestions? Should I try adding rubber washers?

Also, are there any recommendations on upgrade Tail Blades?
I'm finding it tricky finding new blades of the same dimensions as the white ones. Should I be looking at any 450 class tail blades?

    Thankyou in advance.

Sounds good, any pictures. I have a TT CNC head on mine but the tail is still original.

I have a blink trading cnc tail fitted to the mine and the standard blades fit perfect. Perhaps you could try a small washer each side of the blade to pack it out. Dont know if rubber washers would be a good idea as the friction might prevent the blades from moving freely.
I also have a sonix cnc head from http://www.flightboxrc.co.uk/acatalo...itan_E325.html fitted as well which is a nice bit of engineering.

Captain crash has some carbon tail blades but not sure of there size. I have loads of spare white ones so I will chew through them before changing to carbon ones.

My metal tail components are all 'official' Thunder Tiger upgrades.
It's funny, as TT offer all the metal components as stated, however they DON'T do a metal Tail Case, which would finish off the tail tbh, with all the other metal parts!

Therefore, might look to buy the Sonix Tail Case instead of keeping the TT plastic one.

funfreex, so should i try to source some metal washers, for the tail blades, to use as spacers (not rubber ones)? Suppose I'd be looking in the hardware stores for these? Won't they foul up the nice shiny metal blade grips over time though? Thankyou also for the link, much appreciated.

Again, nice of TT to offer metal tail blade grips - but then they should also offer plastic spacers so their own White blades fit the metal grips, like they have made a set for the main blades! Hmmm, more thought needed on TT's part.

Kwickkwack, No probs, here's a nice pic of my Tail taken today....

How much do you think is required to take up the slack? If you can measure the gap between the blade grip i will compare it to the one on mine.
It is odd that although it is a genuine TT upgrade it needs spacers.

I have some spare main blade spacers which would probably do the trick that I could send if you cant find anything.

Hi funfreex, thankyou for your feedback.

Placing a tail blade into the metal grip, there is literally a paper thin gap either side, however this still allows the blade to hang loose when fitted.

Thankyou for your offer on the main blade spacers, however even these could be too thick. I've heard of others cutting up an old credit card too - at least it would stop me spending on my Helicopters for a while........ until I order a new card!

If it is just a paper thin gap I am sure nipping up the slack and slightly squeezing the grips together would not be the wrong thing to do.
There will be others on this forum with far more experience than I who may disagree in which case that advice I would accept, But until then I would go ahead and tighten the grips the small amount you are suggesting. Bare in mind though the tail blades do not need to be very tight at all.
When mine are placed horizontal they fall to the bottom.

                Thankyou for this feedback Jamie.

I cut up a plastic stationary folder (that is a fraction thicker than say an A4 piece of paper), which is providing just enough friction, used as a spacer, to hold the tail blades without them dropping loose in the grips.

Great! - costing me £0.05p max - must be my cheapest Mod so far !!!

I extended the bolt going through mine and put a nylok nut on the other side of the grip so when you tighten them then it clamps the grips a little more. Therefore i didnt need any spacers.

                  Cheers
