    Okay

Following a few knocks at the weekend the G4 took one too many and the tail drive in the Tail Boom Bracket assembly gave up in the end.

Its not surprising really if you have a helical at the tail and a helical main then the weakest gear in the chain is going to be the tail drive gear.

Anyway I replaced it today but having to do so is not a simple pull out strip and replace.

TT have the tail pushrod running through from the front through the plastic moulding and once it exist the frame it has a nice 45 degree bend down to connect to the rear part of the tail pushrod assembly.

The consequence is that whenever you need to take this part out you have to not only disconnect from the tail servo but remove the link itself and pull it out completely so as to be able to remove the Tail Boom Bracket.

So if someone knows a man in TT tell him please to either make a bell crank for the rear like the Outrage and feed the tail pushrod along the outer frame or make a carbon/boom mount for the tail servo to sit there. CG maybe an issue to consider but just an observation following the weekends fun.

Got myself some G5 Pro Maverick WC blades to go on it today too....

I can't deny its a fantastic heli - lovin it to bits to be honest.

I just see this gear being under the cosh alot its the weakest link and I don't relish the idea of having to pull this rod out everytime I need to change it and reset up my geometry on the tail every time.

I said in my review that its wasn't a clever thing to and put it down as my wishlist for a V2 to remove it and change it. Now I think I'd like Quick UK to make a boom mount - i'll give Budd a tinkle tomorrow and see if he has any plans to do one.

That issue aside the process of pulling it out and refitting a new gear was like all heli's really a doddle - I did replace both the top and bottom gear you can buy the one gear on its own for peanuts (£1.34).

Perhaps having some sort of marker on the rod will help relocate the link if you have to keep taking it out, thin fuel tube you can slide up to the link or a dab of tip-ex?

Stuart, here's an idea - dont know if it will do what you want but when you put it back together stick some heatshrink on the rod on the side where you dis-connect it. It'll act as a marker for when you put it back together next time. Obviously set the tail up and move the heatshrink into place then shrink to make the marker.

When you put the coupler on make sure bit rods meet in the centre of it & it will always be the right length.
Be careful of this rod a mate had his fracture on his x50 nitro right on the centre support bracket. It had only done 3 flights when the tail let go. I know this is the 90 so that tail rod is probably beefed up a little more but worth a mention none the less. Maybe the quick uk tail kit woul be the better option.
