  • G4 n820

Just though I would upload a few pics on my N820. Started off as a E720 then stretched to an E820 and flown about 60 flights. As I got more in to the model the flight time came down to about 4:30 so with the colder weather approaching decided to turn it in to a nitro. It's got a YS120SRX bolted in there and the complete model rtf including fuel is 5.0kg, 11lbs. Put a few flights on in yesterday only snag needed to go push pull on throttle lever as with side load it put resistance in the system. Out early this morning put another 10 flights on it and its running like a champ. Burnt off my last rotor rage and on to Rapicon 20LS. That required leaner needles by about 3 clicks and still breaking the motor in but its close and producing some great power. So flight wise early days but its nimble, snappy and autos forever. Looking forward to getting on the gov and off my U curve and mixes.

Only problem now is TT are discontinuing this great range of Helis. Long may the spares continue!

Couldn't believe how smooth the SRX is compared to the SR even on its first start up and flight yesterday. That is going to be a fantastic heli once that engine is properly run in. See you first thing in the morning Michael with your N820 and I'll have my E820!

That was a quick project! Looks good and as slim as an electric though it's a big model so engine and fuel tank easily concealed. Nice engineering and good job.

                Gasser next!

                Stopping G4 production! Bah!
I'll have either stuffed mine into other ground or it'll be a good excuse to spend more money!

More expense! (Though it'll have to be a 900+)

Thanks for all the positive comments. No gasser for me leave that to the master rmorris and catch G early morning.

I knew the cofg would need some work but when I figured it needed 120g up front thought look at other options. I decided to chop 4cm off the back as I only intend running 780 mains, then relocated the tail servo from the boom to the front requiring custom rod and extended tray. Result no weight required and balances perfectly. Tbh I wouldn't do that again its a lot of work and the boom diameter is very slightly larger where you chop it causing the refitting of the tail gearbox to be tricky. Great result nevertheless.

Managed another early session today and put another 7 flights on it. All the Vbar tweaking is done with optimisation and trim flights plus tail and gov. Final flight today even surprised me it was just blinding. The SRX is a different animal to the SR tuning is easy, consistent and now fully tuned and produces all the power you need. Full 8 mins of giving it some and the motor never even coughed or faded just mega. Only difference to the E is it flew a bit longer, noisier and a smoke trail. Overall very very happy how this has turned out.

What a early morning session, there can't be many (if any) clubs where you will see an E820 fly followed by a N820! N820 is nothing short of perfect, bags of power from the 120SRX and the long flight time make the N820 a really good option. Not far from similar power to electric but with the 8min flights does it for me but still loving my electric 820 now it's pretty much set up, think 120mm blades will be the next change.
