  • G4 Tailboom - A little heads-up

I found out yesterday from a phone call to Midland helis (thanks guys!) that since the G4 has been discontinued, due to the G4.1 release, the tailboom has a new design. The G4.1 tailboom has just one hole drilled in at the tailbox end rather than the two oval cutouts of the old boom. So a completely different part essentially. They have kept the part number identical though, so you will not know until you receive the boom that it has changed. I had almost got to the point of dremelling mine to fir the tailbox, but Midlands came to the rescue!
The solution unfortunately is to get the new G4.1 or E820 tailbox which has the correct fitting for the new booms.

Bit rubbish if you ask me - but then again Thunder Tiger have mostly proved rubbish in all aspects apart from the flying characteristics of the heli. One hand giveth, the other taketh away!

On mine I just enlarged a hole on the tail gearbox and tapped to m4 (non fin side). Just mount up, drill boom and put a m4 bolt or m4 grub with red locktitie.

Is this confirmed? There is a thread on helifreak which seems to have confirmation from Thunder Tiger that the g4.1 has been discontinued. Although "the most commonly required" spares will still be available?!?

It could just be crossed wires… although the post does seem to contain confirmation from TT that it is true. Wonder if they have something new in design stage?!? Seems strange to discontinue such a great model otherwise?….!??!?

When i first heard it i assumed the original G4 had been discontinued due to the release of the G4.1 too….. But some seem to saying otherwise

Ah, I think it may well be my interpretation of what was said to me to be honest. I don't have a definitive answer. Here's hoping they keep the spares going for a little while yet. As you say, an awesome machine. Just a pity about everything else surrounding it.

Hi from what I've heard it is only the g4 nitro that is being discontinued not the e720. Allegedly Thunder Tiger are no longer going to produce any new nitro models only electric.
