im impressed with how chunky everything is on this heli, mines almost done now. Stuart/surinder, have you had to shim your tail output shaft at all, mine has quite a bit of end play?

dont think so from memory you have the two gears pin and grub keeps gear in place I havent a manual on my phone does it show one in the manual.

I have some up down play in the main head which I need to look into too.

I'm not a very experienced builder and the manual is not that great. I have found reading Stuarts Build and Review blog very useful as well as the help here on the forum.

Tony, I dismantled the tail grips 3 times when I was building mine, thinking that is something I was doing wrong! After allot of Googling, I found no info. So I pm'd Si in here knowing that he had build one, and he confirmed that is normal.

yes its the way there built old style its relies on the thrust bearings when spooled up to ensure that each blade is true. just make sure you have put loctitie on the bolt that holds it in place.

The only place you can adjust it is by pushing down on the top bearing block according to the manual, have you got both flat sides of the blocks facing towards the maingear ?

No my tail grips are fine its the output shaft that has in/out play.

Make sure the grub screw that goes into the end of the tail output shaft is done up tight. I had some play on mine, but this grub screw sorted it.

Any other niggles, let me know!

normal just lock in the bolts job done.

Head play issue sorted now.

Classic novice builder mistake.

Just like Stuart suspected I had put one of the bearing blocks in the wrong way round.
In my case the bottom one.

Just flipped and installed correctly now its perfect.

Nah its normal for a novice error even I get it wrong - loctitite is my worst enemy you get so keen to get it done just that one nut you forget and its game over in flight...

Guys how did you pop the tiny circlips on the pins that go through the plastic tail pitch control link?

They are tiny and I've almost had on shoot off while I was trying to pop it on.
Luckily it didn't go to far and I found it. Is there a technic to put these on. I've seen a tool used on
larger circlips but theres got to be a way to pop this in place ?

Very, very carefully ...

These things have long been a feature of TT builds so I guess I've got used to them by now.

Personally I use a pair of needle-nosed pliers which allows me to locate the bottom jaw under the pin and the groove in the top jaw holds the clip in place while you squeeze it gently into place.

very carefully with some small pin nosed plyers one end around the pin and the other around the back of the clip and gently apply pressure to slowly slide the clip onto the pin.

Yes guys that worked

Noel Cross also suggested applying a little grease to the pin and clip and doing the operation exactly as you guys have suggested inside a white carrier bag, in order to catch the clip if it should try and fly away again.

This so far has been the most challenging part of the build so far

I wonder how I'd get these clips off if I needed to in the future ?
